I was tempted to put this thread in "Miscellaneous" as Hayley has commented several times at her recent concerts about how hot the weather has been in the UK this month! But I restrained myself Well, today at 2:32 pm BST the highest July temperature ever recorded in the UK was set at Charlwood in Sussex, near to Gatwick Airport and exactly 8 miles from the home of our very own... Roger! That July record is now 36.3 deg C (97.3 deg F) so well done Sussex, and Roger, if you'd had a thermometer in your back garden, you might have got the record! How is it in the conservatory? i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifWisley in Surrey... where Hayley performed recently... was less than half a degree below Charlwood at 4pm. Here near the coast in Fareham, it reached a nice 32 deg C (90F) at 1pm but then, the sea breeze arrived and it's now stuck in the mid eighties F (30 deg C). But.... the all-time UK temperature record for June (35.6C/96F) occurred only six miles from my home... at Southampton, Mayflower Park, on June 29th 1976 - which happened to be my birthday! news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5193486.stmFrom a sunny and roasting England... Dave and I'm not crying!

Hi Dave, I have a maximum / minimum thermometer in my conservatory. I have also had all the doors and windows wide open since early this morning and the conservatory is almost entirely in the shade of trees. The temperature is always 3 or 4 Fahrenheit higher than the true outside temperature and, in extreme cases, probably 6 or 7 degrees higher. However, the maximum reading today was.... 39.5 C / almost 104 F Roger

Hi Roger, The Charlwood (Gatwick) temperature was beaten later in the afternoon by... Royal Horticultural Gardens at Wisley in Surrey, which recorded 36.5 deg C. You, me and many of the HWI team were of course there on Thursday June 8th this year and, most importantly, so was Hayley! Here is the report from the Met Office website: Of course, we all know who the REAL record holder should be... you! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifCheers, Dave

Hi all...hot enough for ya?
Good thing you lot were at RHS Wisley on June 8th and not yesterday!
Here in the states, daily maximum temps of 100 degrees or higher reached from Texas right up to the Canadian border. Arizona and California had high temps over 120 deg F last week.
I also have a max/min thermometer; last Monday my town of Forest City had a temp of 35.4 deg C (95.3 deg F).
Stay cool! Joe
