Well I know some of you have sung in public. How about everyone else? Either as a soloist or in a group, choir etc, they all count.
Yep, I've done that. I was in a gospel group many years ago called Challice and sang backing vocals (whilst hiding behind a guitar). We averaged about 16 members and regularly played for church services, charity events and such like.
From that, a traditional folk group evolved. At least that's how Driftwood began but we ventured into C&W and a little bit of pop. For most of the time, I was the lead vocalist which makes me wonder if it was such a good idea to start this thread! lol
Natasha and Kristyn, you should be able to keep this going for a while but let's see if there are a few surprises from other members.

Hi all,
I remember back at school my twin brother and I sang 'When the Saints Go Marching In' during a play. That must've been back in second grade (aged 7 or 8). But apart from the occasional school plays, there hasn't been much else.
Oh, LOL, on Friday last I was happy that the work week was nearing its end, and I was humming 'Down To The River'. A co-worker asked what song it was and I told her. Actually I do a lot of humming now that I think about it.

I was in choir in second grade... and I used to perform Christmas carols for my parents until I was 10.

I still sing now, both choir and solo, as Natasha can attest.

Thank you for an interesting question Roger! I've never sung a solo in public, but I did take part in an edition of "Songs of Praise" in support of the Hospice Movement back in early 1992. I was only a member of the congregation, but there was a shot of me on TV which I've still got on a video somewhere, although I've never liked watching myself. I told Hayley about it at Olympia in March, and she seemed very impressed, but I think she realises I'm no competition! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest Wishes from London, Richard

Come to think of it, I was once asked to sing solo. I was quite flattered until they explained what they meant. Apparently the request was for me to sing so low that they couldn't hear me! Roger

Hi everyone, I am in our school choir so I sing a lot in that. I've also sung in several ensembles before. I really love singing, but I don't think I could ever be brave enough to do a solo.

I sing in my University choir because I have to (although it is actually fun!), and have sung solo and as part of a duet (both with my guitar as accompaniment) in public several times. Performing with the choir is fine as no one can hear you, but I find solos and duets extremely nerve wracking and very exposing!
Does anyone else get stage fright before singing in public?

...Does anyone else get stage fright before singing in public? Hi Emma, I don't get stage fright any more because I no longer sing in public. I can't really explain this but I get something akin to stage fright whenever Hayley appears! Roger

I sang just a bit in a high school stage production of Les Miserables. I was one of the ensemble members, so I actually did more dancing and costume-changing than singing, but I did have a few solo lines, as Les Mis actually has quite a alot of ensemble solo lines compared to the average broadway show. . And for a Rally to raise money for a medical mission to Vietnam, I sang for a worship band. I think ppl couldn't hear me most of the time lol cuz the backing guitarist was so loud and we'd been practicing nonstop for six hours before the Rally, so my voice was shot. hehe. Nothing much, but fun nevertheless

Hello! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI've sung in public many times mostly without even realizing I am doing it! I've sung for the public quite a few times. Some of the highlights include my very first solo at the age of 6 in a school production of 'Clowns.' I joined a church choir at the age of 8 and continued with that until I was too old for the group at the age of 11. While with the choir I had a few small solos. In 5th grade (age 11), I played the role of Cinderella in 'Cinderella and the Big Mess' an original play written with assistance by the 5th graders of my school. In this role I composed (with some assistance) and sang a solo. From 12-14 I was in choir with school and performed quite a few concerts there, but no solos for I was to shy during middle school. In 9th grade (15 years old), I was in my school production of 'The Laramie Project' in which we sung Amazing Grace a Capella. That's just about it. Now I sing in my house, and compose songs when I have the time, but it's not very often. <3 Caite
