Media previews/reviews and fan reviews/photos of Il Divo's concert in Oberhausen, Germany, on 3rd May (preferably those mentioning Hayley!) should be posted in this thread, together with any follow-up comments.
By the rules of Proboards forums, only reviews and messages in English may be posted.
Please stay on topic to this concert; off topic matters should be discussed in a more suitable thread or board.

Well, I ploughed thru endless posts from latest back to earliest & came to a Hayley compliment but it just turned out to be Caite's earlier findings!! So there ya don't go, Graeme I probably should be saying 'don't bother to read this'

Here are thefirst (or so it would appear) reports from the concert on the Il Divo Thread. Posted by Kate: Posted by Sabine: Posted by Ophelia: <3 Caite Something went wrong in the quoting procedure and it is the middle, less obvious quote, that is most reelevant to what follows. (Edit: I've made it more prominent. Richard) All of you, thank you for your comments via Caite. I think this confirms why Hayley says she is having a great time, she is gaining some real experience at the grass roots level. I draw an analogy. One of my godaughters was recently recommended for a high-flyer programme and her superiors were flabberghasted that she turned it down, particularly as the supervisor reconmending her had never ever recommended anyone for this high-flyer programme in thirty years of service. The reason my goddaughter declined? However far she went she wanted to know (and for those she was put in charge of to know) that she knew what it was really like on the 'shop floor' level. All the great artistes, how ever many lucky breaks they had in their careers have always been able to look back at their experience on the floor of hard knocks from which, I'm sure, derives the humility which is so much the charm of their greatness. Hayley has been at the top early, had her own show with guests touring nationally and I would not be at all surprised if one of the many reasons she chose to run with Il Divo was that she saw the role as something akin to the provincial weekly rep's ASM--Asistant Stage Manage, the lowest rung of all. Warming for someone else, to an audience who never came for you and seeing you but as a distraction or second fiddle, is a humbling experience. It is a real test of character and is the route most people have to start with. It is also a terrific challenge. She wanted that challenge. I think she also wanted the experience of being someone else's curtain warmer. However great she gets, she wants to feel comfortable with herself, knowing that she too knows what it is like to play second fiddle. It makes me admire her all the more. It is why she is the great person I know that she is and why, if she really makes the goddess-worshipped international levels, she will still have her head firmly screwed on and her feet firmly on the ground. It is why she is already such a very wonderful person to know. Peter

Hello Peter! Things do occasionally go wrong with multiple quotes, so I've made the middle quote more prominent in your post. You might be interested to know that somebody called Kate, probably not the one who made the first quote, has joined Hayley's official forum and written a message in the Guestbook section. You can read it here. Best Wishes, Richard

Thank you Richard for your technical tweaking. I would have stayed with it and persevered but I had to shoot off to the dental surgery, where I am afraid I created something of a sensation--it was those legs again.
'Is it that warm?' the receptionist enquired, looking somewhat startled. I thought she was referring to my hat, one of my favourite Fedoras.
'No! The shorts!' Suddenly I was at the centre of the attention of three female heads peering over the reception desk, two dental assistants emerging, one each from two side doors to see what the noise was all about, while the patients already there seemed very keen to move over, to ensure i had plenty of space in which to sit so i wasn't crowded by them.
While the blind lady I had met last week in Waitrose had been somewhat fulsome in her comments the five female heads now seemingly devouring every aspect of my anatomy were rendered somewhat speechless--and not by contrast. They simply were, speechless!
Later, the dentist was unperturbed and it was fortunately one of those in and out visits. At least i hope he dispensed with me quickly because there was nothing wrong (with my teeth at least), not because he was anxious to see me gone!
So, thank you Richard.

...All the great artistes, how ever many lucky breaks they had in their careers have always been able to look back at their experience on the floor of hard knocks from which, I'm sure, derives the humility which is so much the charm of their greatness. Perhaps all of this was foreshadowed in the remarks Hayley made to the Manchester Evening News* last 5th December 2005: "I guess I'm very fortunate to be where I am. I have met people who have trained for years and gone through college. Sometimes I feel like I haven't paid my dues. Not everyone gets the opportunities that I have but I would like to have some more tuition."Could be that Hayley had something to prove to herself, something only the challenge of opening for Il Divo could offer, instead of the relative cakewalk she experienced among her own fanatical following. * www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/entertainment/music/classicalandopera/s/136/136170_hayleys_lowry_date.html

Thank you Steve for that reference to the Manchester Evening News interview with Hayley. I think, yes, that does indeed sum up her attitude and I'm sure it is one of the reasons behind her decision to run with Il Divo--and possibly one of the reasons Katherine wouldn't? I mean no more in that remark than a simple observation.
While she has never been reticient (other than diplomatically so) she is giving more of herself to sucessive interviews, or possibly it is the interviewing technique of the interviewer? But the more she gives of herself the more one admires, respects and loves the person she is.
