Hi Stephanie, You have mentioned in the "Odyssey" sub-board, the amazing young English singer, Keedie. I know you also have Hayley's 'Live in New Zealand' DVD. As far as I know, that makes you the only other person here (apart from me) who has both Keedie's and Hayley's versions of the Bach/Gounod 'Ave Maria' (sung in English). I wonder which one you prefer? I will let you know my choice as soon as I decide! It could take me years! Roger

Hi Kimberly and Stephanie, or if you prefer, Stephanie and Kimberly! I know you are twins but, did you realise you have both made the same number of posts? 15 each! Anyway, I am really pleased that I have two versions of Ave Maria because they are both wonderful. I like them both best but for different reasons. I love the key change between verses in Keedie's version. It is really dramatic and takes you by surprise when the word you expect to be "Amen" at the end turns out to be "Ave" at the beginning all over again. Nobody else knows what I'm talking about but you two do. Then again, I love Hayley's version because, for me, her voice is just the loveliest in the world. And there is the excitment of knowing that she's about to go into "Down To the River", another favourite track from her DVD. So, do what I do - enjoy them both! Nice to hear from you. Roger

Hi! I'm a Hayley fan from the Philippines. I love both Hayley's Ave Maria. I also like Keedie's Ave Maria(though quite "popish" but the English lyrics is really great). So, I think both did great! I also love Keedie's Vissi D'arte! Quite a hair raising vocals there.^_^

Hi Tim, The contemporary lyrics were written by an Isreali singer called Achinoam Nini, aka "Noa" and appeared on her album entitled Noa Gold in 1994. The full version of the lyrics appear below. Lyrics: Achinoam Nini (Noa) Music: Bach / Gounod Ave Maria Where have you been hiding? Don't you know we need you! Things are looking pretty bad down here. I know that there is beauty Gentleness, and laughter These are things you always stood for Help us find them too. Hey, there, Maria! Santa Maria...Maria. May I take a liberty And say that it's a shame to me Not to live in harmony We're all just hoping Someone will step forward singing... Amen, Amen Ave Maria Where have you been hiding? Don't you know we need you! Things are looking pretty bad down here. I know you hear the fighting See the torch we're lighting On our quest for peace and freedom Help us see this through Hey, there, Maria! Santa Maria...Maria. May I take a liberty And say that it's a shame to me Not to live in harmony We're all just hoping Someone will step forward singing... Amen Information from Lyrics And Songs Roger

My kiwi friend sent me the special NZ edition of "Odyssey" which features the bonus track, "Ave Maria," and strangely enough I think I like the DVD version better, lol. Hayley does it with that same "Amen" - "Ave" transition that Roger said Keedie does. I may be wrong... but something tells me this track was recorded at the same time as the rest of the "Pure" tracks. Her voice just doesn't sound like it does on Odyssey. I haven't heard Keedie's version, but from my biased opinion I'm telling you now, I like Hayley's better!

Thanks Roger for these lyrics. Quite contemporary but they don't detract from the song's purpose. I love this song on the DVD.
