Sophie is to perform in a outdoor concert on the 26th February 2006,at the Awatere Valley,Marlborough.
In March 2002 Hayley sang at this event, At the same event Sophie did a solo and also sang with Hayley.
This time Sophie will sing solo but may do a song with another of the acts the Madson Brothers. If i remember rightly they are very good at singing songs from the Bee Gee's.
More info coming soon.

Hi Belinda, Thanks for the update. Marlborough appears to be right up the top end of South Island so I suppose you won't be going? Pity. Roger

Thanks very much, Belinda. I am posting the article here as a permanent record lest it should disappear from it's source: Hayley's sister to sing at festival 17 January 2006 Easy-listening opera will be flavour of the month in Marlborough during February. Sophie Westenra, who is the younger sister of superstar Hayley, has been confirmed as an act at the Awatere High Country Festival, along with "The Two Tenors" from Nelson. The festival takes place on February 26, rounding off a month of entertainment which starts with a concert in the vines on Waitangi weekend and includes the Wine Marlborough Festival. Russell Watson, who helped to launch Hayley's career, is singing with Southland opera diva Deborah Wai Kapohe at a concert in the vines of Montana's Brancott Estate on February 6. About 1000 tickets to the event have been sold. There are up to 4000 available, including 1200 seated tickets and others for sitting on the lawn. The Awatere Festival, meanwhile, has attracted up to 2500 people in the past and will be held at Oak Tree Cottage near Seddon for the second time. As well as Sophie Westenra and The Two Tenors ? a duo which includes versatile Nelson entertainer Paul Madsen ? it will feature Irish rock band Cutty Wren of Nelson. Festival committee chairman Geoff Swift said the organisers were hoping for a "nice big crowd" and believed the audience would enjoy the atmosphere. Contributing to that will be displays such as sheep shearing, as well as more than 40 art and craft stalls, and food, beer and wine outlets. The festival received $2500 from the Marlborough District Council community grants scheme but was denied a request for it to underwrite the event. stuff.co.nz

Hi Belinda, Did the event go well? did you get any feedback from any body who did get to go? It is nice to know that Sofie's career is moving along well, I look forward to the day when she sings in the UK with Hayley, or even a number on her own. Best Wishes Steve H

I look forward to the day when she sings in the UK with Hayley, or even a number on her own. Hello Steve! Sophie appeared with Hayley during the first "Pure Tour" in March 2004. I attended the concert at the London Palladium where they sang "Panis Angelicus" and "Across The Universe Of Time" together, the latter as featured on Hayley's DVD. I didn't get the chance to talk to Sophie that night, but I had a nice little chat with her last July at Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre, although she didn't sing there. I'm sure Sophie will sing here in the UK again before too long. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest Wishes, Richard

Hi Steve and Richard, I have heard nothing more about the event at Awatere High Country festival, and last time i heard from Jill she said Sophie and Isaac wouldn't be going overseas for awhile :-[as i think it is an important school year for Sophie and she needs to concentrate on her School work. Hi Richard,
Yes i did hear that , But if she leaves it to long she will have to re record everthing as her voice would change. I get the impression Sophie doesn't really want to follow in Hayley's footsteps ,She has insight of what is involved, but is just happy to sing when asked as well as just getting on with her own life.Hobbies school, etc That is only my opinion I think she will study to get what job she wants but sing as a sideline.

Hi Belinda,
Many thanks for the lovely photo of Sophie.
For anyone who hasn't heard Sophie's voice, you are really missing something. She is every bit as good as Hayley.
