Thanks Richard, that's excellent information. What is becoming clear is that some of the CD shops simply don't do their research properly. Those who have it at no. 15 (or 20 in one case) are going by the Odyssey re-release (Special Edition) chart performance, which is a bit stupid as Treasure is a completely new release. However, all is not necessarily lost as some of them such as Tesco and Sainsburys are specially promoting it and should therefore have larger stocks than normal for a no. 15 album - hopefully they won't go out of stock. The mystery is why they didn't put it in their top 10, having done a promotion for it! Those who have it outside the top 10 and no special promotion (ASDA [Virgin?]) worry me as they may have only ordered the expected stock for a no. 15 album and that will not be enough. ASDA have done this before with Hayley - they are not always 'on the ball'. However, I'm about to post some interesting news in the official charts thread Latest Chart News! Cheers, Dave

Hello everyone, iTunes have had Treasure and Treasure (bonus edition +2 tracks) up for a couple of days now and they are showing up in their rankings. It always takes a few days to catch up with iTunes as they seem to spread their charts over several days. But iTunes seeem to have got themselves in a bit of a mess with Hayley genres! Treasure is classed as "Folk" and is no. 1 in the iTunes Folk chart. The bonus edition is classed as "Traditional Pop" but there is no such genre listed on their home page! Overall, Treasure is now up to no. 26 at iTunes and the bonus version is no. 89. I still cannot believe that anyone would want to download the normal 16 track version in place of the 18 track bonus version - for the same price!!! Treasure is currently no. 8 overall at Amazon UK. yeah, iTunes is good at messing up genres. And espicially with Hayley, I could see them having a struggle. I have difficulty telling my friends what genre of music she sings as she covers a lot of bases with her voice.

I agree. Natasha Marsh is worth a listen but Hayley is still the best by a long way.

Hello everyone, There isn't much new charts information today although Treasure has slipped a few places at Amazon UK (no 15 when I looked). At iTunes it's no. 22 (Treasure) and no. 75 (iTunes bonus version). The main reason I'm posting is that when I went into town this afternoon, Woolworths had completely sold out of Treasure (the only sold out album in the top 20) and Sainsburys had only one copy left. I hope these stock shortages aren't too widespread! Cheers, Dave

I'm not worried by Natasha Marsh. I think the new Classic FM CD "Voices" may provide a sterner challenge for Hayley at the top of the chart since it's very easy for the presenters to plug it !

Hi Jeff, Interestingly, Kathryn commented yesterday that there is "stiff competition" in the charts this week. I suspect Natasha Marsh was one of her concerns... so there is no need for you to worry about her! Roger

Hello Jeff and Roger... and Kathryn if you can see this from mid-Atlantic! Have no fear, Hayley will be top of all the classical charts next week (Sunday and the following Saturday) by a mile. The only question is if she will be in the top 10 of the pop chart and the only thing likely to stop that would be shops who go out of stock (like my local Woollies) failing to re-stock today. Natasha Marsh, The Fron (who could surge up again past Natasha), Ludovici Einaudi, Katherine and the rest will be miles behind in sales and probably dozens of pop chart positions adrift of Hayley. But there is as you say Jeff that new compilation out this week called Classic FM Voices and it will probably overtake them all except Hayley... but it will finish a distant second to Hayley in the Classic FM chart in eight days time (it had less than one third of Treasure's sales on Monday this week). The problem will start next week when Russell Watson releases because, although he is unlikely to qualify for the classical charts, he will I think take many "spur of the moment" Mothers Day sales away from Hayley. There are bound to be other "new release" competitors too and keeping Treasure's momentum going until the big Mothers Day sales week (the week after next) and the start of "Jekyll" will be very hard for the record company and probably expensive (in TV adverts) too. Unless of course Hayley is going to be on TV again but I haven't heard any such news. Cheers, Dave

Well here we go again, another week and another set of unofficial shop charts! Martin just mentioned in the latest charts thread that Woolworths have dropped Treasure from 10 to 13, which is better than Odyssey in week 2, I think. WH Smith also have it at 13 this week and so do Sainsburys... but the latter is UP two places (this seems to acknowledge that they got it wrong last week). If most of the rest have Treasure in the top 15 again, it may not drop too many places this week and should stay comfortably inside the top 20, nicely placed for the usual Mothers Day sales boost next week; fingers crossed! Some more advertising too from Decca would help! As an aside, I see that so far, the shops are placing Russell Watson in the top 5 (one at no. 2!) which obviously gives him a big advantage over Hayley. But I have a feeling that he may not do quite as well in the official charts as the Supermarkets etc. think he will... he's changed from a classical to a pop album and it will be interesting to see what happens. My guess is top 10 and higher than Hayley - but several places lower lower than his last album, which entered the charts at no. 2 on the back of his appearance in the singing TV series "The Two Of Us". I think Hayley this week and Russell next week will be much closer in chart position than the shops seemed to expect and Hayley has suffered (relatively) because of this. In the US, I see Celtic Treasure is up to 221 in the overall Amazon.com rankings, we must keep an eye on this! Cheers, Dave

Now up to 103 at Amazon.com - no doubt partly the response to Hayley's first CW tour concert last night, reported on by Bob a few minutes ago! Odyssey is up to no. 313 Pure is up to no. 484! But in the UK, I hope Decca stick an ad into Coronation Street tonight though as at Amazon.co.uk, Treasure slipped off the first page of the main music chart... down to no. 26 for an hour or so but climbing again now. Quoted from the Official Charts thread:I have fallen out with ASDA bigtime!!By this morning, they had dropped "Treasure" down to No. 24 with only one rack of shelf space! Despite that 8 out of the 12 (for a full rack) had been sold!Grant Thanks for that Grant, how annoying! It's to be expected though, the others will probably do the same and I see Sainsburys have it round about no. 32 This was always the risk that Decca ran by releasing early, three weeks before Mothers Day. The problem now is that IF Decca do the advertising we hope for, some of the shops will go out of stock for several days and that will limit the sales and official charts position. Who'd be a Decca CD sales executive? But they may not be bothered too much as Russell Watson who is also Decca got the prime release date with That's Life. Cheers, Dave

Some current Celtic Treasure rankings on release day in the US:
#41 at Amazon.com edit now 31 #44 at Barnes and Noble
This is good, I think Celtic Treasure has a fair chance of a Billboard 200 entry here! (nowhere as high as this though).
Cheers, Dave
