Not another piece about Benedetti in here. Good grief, enough is enough.
Nicky's great but doesn't she have a fan site of her own?
Sorry, but this backlash will only grow with each new article you post.

There's only so much Benedetti I can take, Andrew, and I think I've had my limit several times over. She may be a big deal in the UK right now, but she's not an international star with a world following. Her music is not available outside your zone.
I come here mainly to read about my favourite international singing star Hayley, not some up and coming violinist who's never been sold in my country. I'm starting to resent that I have to wade past these endless Benedetti articles all the time when I visit this forum. If I were a Nicola Benedetti fan I would go to her site to read up on her.
It's nice that we've all had this splendid introduction to Benedetti. Let us take it further if we choose, and without having it shoved in our face so often.

Hi Steve, I shall take your comments into consideration... BTW Nicola Benedetti's 19th birthday will be on July 20th 2006. Look out for the "Happy Birthday" message! JEST pulling your leg! Regards, Andrew

Sorry, but this backlash will only grow with each new article you post. If it does, Steve, it will be deleted. This is the "Other Music" board which you do not have to read if you don't want to. Nicola's latest CD has generated significant interest amongst members of the public and some members of this forum. Her success (and that of others like her) will have an impact on Hayley as they vie for the top position in the charts. As such, it should be of interest to Hayley's fans. It is also significant that Nicola and Hayley share the same manager. Most importantly, you will NOT dictate to other members what they can and cannot post to this forum, especially when it doesn't break any forum rules. Before you repeat the fact that posts in which you are not interested appear in the last 30 posts search, DON'T USE IT. Two perfectly adequate methods of navigation have been described elsewhere which will overcome your difficulty. The software is in place. If you can't be bothered to use it, that's not my problem. Roger

This USED TO BE a fine Hayley site. Now it's a Nicola site with a little Hayley thrown in.
Congratulations, and keep up the good work.

Oh come on Steve, you were out of line there in telling a member like that what he should and should not be posting and you should be able to take a bit of criticism. I've seen no evidence of a "Nicola" backlash apart from yours and I don't expect to see one. Nicola's new album is out this week in the UK and like any of the singers in the "Other Music" board, you expect an increase in articles, posts and scans about her at such times. These you can avoid if you don't like it by using the Search function I described in another thread, or by using Roger's method and looking for 'new' posts in the boards you are interested in. I've improved that method now by changing the unread posts icon to " New" - directly as a result of the matter you raised. As for members not being interested in Nicola, well she is one classical/crossover artist that many Hayley fans will be interested in because as Roger said, they have the same Manager! And I would not be at all surprised to see Hayley and Nicola performing on the same stage at some point. You may have noticed that Hayley and violinists go together very well on the same stage. Nicola is hardly an unknown either; she's been in the UK pop chart. If you wish to discuss American classical/crossover singers or musicians who haven't had UK chart success and whose CDs are hard to find in the UK, you are very welcome to do so. Josh Groban is but one example of many and no doubt there would be lots of press articles posted in the week he releases his next album. Incidentally, Nicola has released in the US and in several other major countries such as Australia. Amazon US.I have removed the personal remark you made in your last post - we can't have that. Cheers, Dave

Roger Oooh. Owch! Do I presume too much to think that the stronger part of this post ought to have been sent as a private email? To me, the most telling and at this stage should have been the most persuasive part of the argument and criticism should be the fact that Hayley and Nicola share the same manager. It is a fact I had forgotten and it is surely the most telling request for harmony in the camp? Peter

The only reason why there's a lot of Nicola stuff is because her album's coming out and her subboard's here. I didn't see you complain when Yulia Townsend stuff and Katherine Jenkins stuff were posted.

I thought you liked Nicola (or 'Nicky' as you once called her?) Personally, I welcome this fine article about Nicola that was so kindly shared with each and every member of this forum. It is your right to state that you might not support an artist, or posts about birthdays or photography. Perhaps you don't know that, like Hayley, Nicola is also ambassador for UNICEF, as I learned last year.

Interesting item of news, Joe, but the post does not state 'Ambassador' but that she is working with UNICEF! The article referred to may state more but I think there is a world of difference between being an 'ambassador' as Hayley is which implies an official position representing her country (NZ) and 'helping' or 'supporting' UNICEF I'm not wishing to diminish Nicky's contribution but to be an ambassador you need to have field experience and we all know Hayley spent some time seeing the reality in Ghana, hence her bike/trike initiative. I'm sure we would have heard more about this connection if Nicky were actually an Ambassador. Peter

I don't think it is mandatory to have field experience before becoming a UNICEF Ambassador. That title was awarded to Hayley in 2003 but fer first field trip (to Ghana) wasn't until last year. Nicola was due to visit Lesotho but apparently had to cancel at the last minute due to contracting flu. I'm not sure if we already have the New Scotsman article about it or not, but it appears HERE. Hello Joe, Peter and Roger! Checking with the UNICEF International and UK websites and the newspaper article linked by Roger, I can see that Nicola seems currently to be a UNICEF Celebrity Supporter (website here and here and here ) and future Ambassador ( here). There is a list of UK UNICEF Celebrity Supporters in one of the FAQs accessible from the drop-down box here but it does not appear to be up to date. Cheers, Dave
