Cottars’ N.S. farewell tour set for November

The Cottars, who recently announced they will be disbanding at the end of the year, will perform a farewell tour of the Maritimes in November. The tour begins Thursday Nov. 16 at The Playhouse in Fredericton and ends Nov. 25 at the Imperial Theatre, Saint John.
Nova Scotia dates include: Friday, Nov. 17 at Convocation Hall, Wolfville; Saturday Nov. 18, SAERC Auditorium, Port Hawkesbury; Sunday, Nov. 19, Savoy Theatre, Glace Bay; Tuesday, Nov. 21, deCoste Centre, Pictou and Wednesday, Nov. 22, Rebecca Cohn Auditorium, Halifax.
The group comprising two teen brother and sister duos, Ciaran MacGillivray, 18 and his sister Fiona and Jimmy MacKenzie, 18, and Roseanne 16, has been together for five years. They have won two East Coast Music Awards for best new artist in 2003 and roots/traditional group of the year in 2005 and have appeared twice on the awards’ national CBC Television broadcast. They have been special guests of Symphony Nova Scotia and will make their third and final headline appearance at the Rebecca Cohn on Nov. 22.
The Cottars have toured North America, Europe, and Japan and were featured special guests on the Chieftains’ 2006 tour of the U.S., the highlight of which was a St. Patrick’s Day concert at Carnegie Hall in New York.
They starred in their own CBC-TV special in 2004 and have released three albums, the last of which, Forerunner, is on the U.S.-distributed Rounder Records label.
