After the debate on whether or not Odyssey would count as Classical in the UK, it's interesting that everyone (including me) seems to have assumed that Living a Dream will qualify for the UK Classical Charts. Well, I don't have the album at the moment - and none of the tracklistings I've found include all the composer names - but so far, I can only positively identify 8 or 9 of the tracks as Classical (by the UK rules). It needs 10 of the 16 to count as classical. I'd appreciate it if someone who has the album would post a tracklisting with composers' names, and if they think each track will qualify as classical or not? My understanding of the UK rules is that to be counted as classical, a song must:: - be written by a "recognised classical composer" but some traditional songs including some carols etc., are allowed; - have a classical arrangement (pop beats are taboo); and - be backed entirely by recognised "classical" musical instruments (if there is a backing!). Pop arrangements of classical songs aren't allowed; classical arrangements of pop songs aren't allowed. Can anyone help? Here's my initial guess (it's bound to be wrong!): pop - 01. Ti Amero Per Sempre (I Will Always Love You) cla - 02. I Vow To Thee My Country cla - 03. One Fine Day (Un Bel Di) pop - 04. Canto Della terra pop - 05. Music Of The Night cla - 06. Nessun Dorma pop - 07. Cinema Paradiso (Se) cla - 08. Ebben? Ne Andro Lontana cla - 09. Amazing Grace cla - 10. David Of The White Rock (tra) cla?- 11. All Things Bright And Beautiful (tra) cla - 12. Mon Coeur s'ouvre A Ta Voix pop - 13. Over The Rainbow cla?- 14. Torna A Surriento (ERNESTO DE CURTIS?) pop - 15. Don't Stand At My Grave And Weep (PETER CHILVERS?) pop - 16. We'll Meet AgainSeven classical, two don't knows, 7 pop. Maybe. Cheers, Dave

Cinema Paradiso (Se) you can say classical as that it is flim music and most of the writers stuff is say to be classical . And I feel if Odyssey and Aled Jones cds were put on the Uk calssical chart I do not see why this cd would not. I feel that Odyssey was short of being 60% classical and it was put on it. And I also think Aled jones cd is short of being 60% classical and KJ sings in a more classical way than Hayley does. So it would be unfair to her if she is not. Torna A Surriento you can say classical and Don't Stand At My Grave And Weep you can also say classical i say if because with some of the other pople that did it it was say to be classical.
All Things Bright And Beautiful is classical as that it is the John Rurrer song.
01. Ti Amero Per Sempre (I Will Always Love You) Pop 02. I Vow To Thee My Country classical 03. One Fine Day (Un Bel Di) classical (aria) 04. Canto Della terra pop 05. Music Of The Night pop (musical) 06. Nessun Dorma classical (aria) 07. Cinema Paradiso (Se)classical/pop (flim music) 08. Ebben? Ne Andro Lontana classical (aria) 09. Amazing Grace classical (tra) 10. David Of The White Rock classical (tra) 11. All Things Bright And Beautiful calssical(tra) 12. Mon Coeur s'ouvre A Ta Voix classical (aria) 13. Over The Rainbow pop 14. Torna A Surriento classical or pop I think hers is the more jazz one.(tra) 15. Don't Stand At My Grave And Weep classical (tra) 16. We'll Meet Again pop
I see 11 songs that I think there could say as cassical as that all thease songs done my other people were say to be classical.
Odyssey to me did not have 10 classical songs Why does Hayley always get her way .

Why does Hayley always get her way . Hehe, OK but she didn't! She had to go back in the recording studio to record more tracks! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifHow the voice sounds doesn't seem to have much to do with it - Andrea Bocelli's and Russell Watson's last two albums were excluded. So were Il Divo and they have very classical sounding voices. Thanks Kimberly for your thoughts and Roger for that list, I'll have a think about it later. I probably should listen to the album first, though

I just got the cd today and how I can have a beter picture I feel this cds has a more popular feel to it than Odyssey (not saying that odyssey is more classical because to me it is not but it just does not have the popular feel that living a dream has) Living a Dream has 4 arias to Odyssey 2, I also feel that with living a dream it has a little more of a classical feel to it. But I feel if odyssey was put on the classical chart why would livign a dream not me put on it and this is the cd that she always whated .
I would like to know how is the lited ediadtion going to work into this. The two boues songs are not classical.

Frankly, if Odyssey is allowed in the Classical charts, it is pointless to debate this issue. I see no reason why Katherine's album should be banned from the classical charts whatsoever.
Cheers.

Gerrit Frankly, I was surprised to see no discussion on this point after the lengthy debate that occurred about Odyssey (UK). It's pretty clear that both Hayley and Katherine have gone as close to the line as they can, to try and maximise popular support for their albums. Both have tracks on each side of the "classical" dividing line but that is in the nature of Classical Crossover. I thought it would be interesting to explore exactly where that line lies. Oh well, never mind. The difference between Katherine, Hayley, Aled... and Il Divo and G4... is simply that the latter two aren''t bothered about being in the classical charts. When at the end of the year we examine their relative chart and sales successes, we shall see whose marketing team got it right (from the commercial viewpoint). Cheers, Dave

I don't see the issue with Katherine not being classical. Hayley doesn't sing operatically, Katherine does. There is a huge difference. Personally, I still don't feel as if Hayley is or ever was a classical artist. I don't think there is any debate whatsoever about Katherines CD being classical. Even if the songs she sings are pop in root, she still sings them in a classical way.

It is not us who makes the rules but I find it a very interesting subject worthy of discussion (before or after the event). Roger

But are you even sure that these rules are set in place? They let Josh Groban in the classical charts and that's saying something. I don't think they actually go by these rules, otherwise Katherine, Hayley nor Josh would get a look in on the classical charts.
