Singers join forces for St Davids Day

A GLAMOROUS radio star and opera singer will be peforming at Newport's first-ever Celebration St David's Concert to help a cause close to her heart.
Beverley Humphreys is charging no fee for her appearance in the show on March 1 and has put together an impressive line-up - rising Newport star Holly Holyoake, four male choirs and a school choir.
Ms Humphreys will be presenter and soloist at the Newport Centre event in aid of the Mayoral Appeal.
One of the beneficiaries is Growing Space, a mental health support charity, which Ms Humphreys came across when she visited Tredegar House with the Paul Robeson exhibition she co-ordinated two years ago.
She became a trustee and was elected chairwoman last year.
When she discovered Newport's mayor, Miqdad Al-Nuaimi was interested in Growing Space as one of his charities during his mayoral year, she offered her help.
Ms Humphreys had already agreed to do the concert when she was offered a professional engagement with BBC National Orchestra of Wales on the same evening but turned it down for the Newport concert.
She was the first singer to perform at the Millennium Stadium and lead the spectators in the national anthem before a Welsh match.
Also on the bill are Newport Male Voice Choir, Cwmbran Male Voice Choir, Pontnewydd Male Voice Choir, Garndiffaith Gleeman, Holly Holyoake, who is also performing free of charge, and St John's on the Hill School choir.
Tickets are available from Newport Centre, Riverfront Theatre or Newport Contact Centre on 01633 656757 at £7.50 adults and £5 children.
