On a future Christmas album, I would like her to sing any, or all, of these i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif : Christmas Canon O Holy Night Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring For Unto Us, and/or the Hallelujah chorus Imagine Hayley singing that! What Child is This? Joy to the World The First Noel Marie Te Po (I agree, she needs at least 1 Maori song!) O Come All Ye Faithful Hark! the Herald Angels We Have Heard on High Some "secular" choices: Silver Bells It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year But no horrid Santa Claus songs! I detest all of them. (If you heard them on the radio at work as often as I did in Dec., you would, too!)

To me, it would seem strange for a Kiwi girl to sing about snow and frosty things, when it's summer at Christmastime in New Zealand! So, I'm confused about how that 'snowy night' song has to do with Christmas in NZ.

So, I'm confused about how that 'snowy night' song has to do with Christmas in NZ. Hi Libby, I think it is traditional for winter scenes to be depicted in Christmas songs all over the world. Even though the seasons are reversed in the southern hemisphere, snow scenes still appear on their Christmas cards. It is totally illogical but it is traditional. Also, many of those songs were written in the northern hemisphere but, just because Hayley was born south of the equator, doesn't mean she shouldn't sing them. Happy Christmas! Roger

Hi Libby and Roger,
There really is a logic here - though unfortunately it may come at the expense of those in the southeen hemisphere.. If you look at all of the countries where an international Christmas album will be released, and simply do the math and you will see that there are 10 times times the potential number of customers in the north - where Christmas is directly related to cold weather , winter, and snow.
That explains the selection of songs and art - but there is an underlying reason more deep seated. It is hard to specify a date because the spread of Christmas tradtional was gradual - and also picked up on various pagan elements as it spread. However, there was a period of likely a thousand years or more where such tradtions grew in Northern Europe - and then spread with the expannsion of the early modern empires across the rest of the world. It may not seem logical that the Kiwis may show snow and the like on their Christmas cards, until you realize that the entire tradtion was passed on by the British and others in reletively recent times.
Jon - edited to eliminate redundant redundancy....

Of course i would like some traditional songs on a future Christmas album, but some new ,or other Christmassongs i appreciate too!!! After seeing Hayley singing other styles of songs/music, i found a very nice christmassong,"Christmas was a friend of mine", from Dutch singer/songwriter, Fay Lovski, which was a huge succes about 20 years ago, and turned into a "Christmasevergreen" Listen to it here!! nl.youtube.com/watch?v=0xTiXSj1xm4Greetz Joyce.

With a new Christmas album on the way, it is funny comparing what we had hoped to be sung to what is, at present, the tracklist.
We got the Maori with the Japanese bonus track!

I'm sorry some are missing, but hopefully this is not the only Christmas album she'll ever record.

Well she DID record another Christmas album and from the looks of it avoided all the suggestions we had in favor of much better offerings!
I still can't believe she was able to project the Christmas spirit so brilliantly in the middle of summer when she recorded it. Maybe they decorated the studio and had a Christmas tree all set up to coax the right mood from her.
