Hi Northern Lights... four now! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI have (finally) voted for the original UK Odyssey because of the effect it had on me when I first heard it - before they re-packaged it it for the re-release and removed some of the songs I liked best (like Dido's Lament). That original UK version of Odyssey has now been officially "deleted" and is no longer available to buy as a physical CD (only as a download). However, I am not saying that it is necessarily Hayley's best album - but it is my favourite Hayley album... if you see what i mean. Dave

I'm actually really surprised that Pure is the winner - i love Pure, but i think Odyssey and Treasure are so much more developed and richer. Even my sister's favorite album is Pure!! Can anyone explain why??? Dori

Hi Dori,
Could it be that Pure was the first album (of Hayley's!) that you sister heard? That *might* explain why it is still her favourite. That is the case with me and, no matter how good future albums are, I think Pure will always be my favourite.
Just in case Hayley is looking at this thread, I am sure that everyone who is lucky enough to have the first two NZ albums absolutely adores them. The fact that they have received no votes does not necessarily suggest otherwise. It is just that we love the international albums even more.

Hello Roger, Yes, Pure was the first album we all heard! So how come it's your favorite?? Is it because it was her first international and huge success?? Mine has always been, and probably will always be Odyssey. That album just has it all for me. I also love Treasure, and of course, Pure. Buf her self titled album holds a very special place in my heart, and My Gift to You is my favorite all time Christmas album - ever! :2fun: I wonder what rank Prayer will be on my list?? :2fun: I mean, let's face it, is there any album of Hayley's that we don' like.... I doubt it :rollin
Dori

Definitely 'Pure'...I will NEVER forget hearing those clips of 'Pokarekare Ana' and thinking to myself "who is this girl".
I was glad to help launch the US release on April 6, 2005. Keith was so happy that the CD booklet had some new photos...I couldn't scan them fast enough!

Hi Grant,
That is the same for me, although I heard other Hayley songs first, and loved them, the first time I heard 'Hine e Hine' I was absolutely blown away by it, it is so beautiful, every time I hear the song it has me completely mesmerized.
There are not many songs that can do that to me.

Maybe there should be a thread in Wherer to Buy for this poor version of Odyssey!!

Maybe there should be a thread in Wherer to Buy for this poor version of Odyssey!! But if you download it from www.classicsandjazz.co.uk it is now guaranteed to play on your computer... and your iPod too, if you have one. They have made all Hayley's UK albums (all editions) available in mp3 format with no copy protection. Just click on one of the iPod or dress circle banners, register for free, and you can get them at 320 kbps which is much better than iTunes quality (128 kbps) and in my opinion, is indistinguishable from a real CD. When you have the missing tracks, burn them all in the correct order onto a CD and you have.... the deleted Odyssey! I'm sure that if you want the artwork, someone will scan and post it... Do-it-yourself Hayley! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifCheers, Dave

It does seem to have something different about it. It may seem a strange comparison, but to me it's like the first car I ever had. It doesn't matter how much of an old banger it was or how many shiny new ones I've owned since, I will always have a special fondness for that first one! Best wishes Grant

Just in case Hayley is looking at this thread, I am sure that everyone who is lucky enough to have the first two NZ albums absolutely adores them. The fact that they have received no votes does not necessarily suggest otherwise. It is just that we love the international albums even more. I agree with Roger’s comments - I find the first two albums interesting to listen to and particularly like Love Changes Everything and Bach/Gounod’s Ave Maria. Listening to Somewhere compared to the version we heard Hayley sing a couple of months ago on “Friday Night Is Music Night” shows us how far she has come and how much her voice has developed, and she had a great voice even back then! Ultimately though, the album doesn’t get my vote as it doesn’t have the range and depth of material of the future international albums. Similarly with My Gift To You, which will probably get more playing time as Christmas approaches. I think it’s inevitable with any album, no matter how much you like the artist, that there will be some favourite songs and ones you listen to more, particularly if you don’t have time to listen to the whole album. I’m not saying there are any “filler” type songs on the albums, but obviously there are some less favourite tracks. Pure was the last of the three international albums I actually managed to buy, but contains the songs I first heard of Hayley’s mainly from seeing Pokarekare Ana and Who Painted the Moon Black videos on Classic FM TV. However, I have to agree with Dazza – when I first heard Hine e Hine, that was the moment that Hayley’s music really connected fully with me. The rest of the album is also very strong and varied and other highlights include River of Dreams, Never Say Goodbye, Heaven etc. Odyssey – I can only go on the re-release version I have, and haven’t yet heard some of the songs on the original album that weren’t on the re-release like Dido’s Lament, Never Saw Blue (need to update my collection for any missing songs once Prayer arrives.) As I mentioned about favourite songs, I think tracks 4-6 (Lascia, Prayer and Ave Maria) may be the best run of songs on any of Hayley’s albums, and the whole first 6 tracks are great. However, for me, the rest of the album doesn’t quite hit the heights of the first half dozen tracks. Treasure – as with Odyssey, I think there are some great sections of this album, particularly the closing few tracks (Summer Fly, Melancholy Interlude, Bist Du Bei Mir and Abide With Me) and it’s great to hear Hayley’s songwriting really showcased for the first time on several tracks. Ultimately music is about the feeling you get from listening to it, and Pure is the album that I can best lose myself in for the whole duration, and for that reason gets my vote. However, with the songwriting developments on Treasure and the continuing development of Hayley’s voice, I’m sure Hayley’s best album has yet to be recorded and I can confidently say that my favourite album will be the next one! James

I suppose I should have said booklet, not cover. I've seen nearly all the covers, but not the booklets, which is what I'm after!
