Hi everyone,
In case anybody is wondering, Nicola's account was not closed by me. She closed it herself of her own free will.
Jon, thank you for steering this thread back on course. I don't believe for a moment that you have been "going on about the album so much" - no more than the rest of us anyway. Neither do I believe it has caused any sort of controversy. Having waited about 18 months (since the release of Odyssey) it is right that it should nowe be a major talking point. Hayley would have a problem if it wasn't.
If Nicola should ever choose to come back, she will be welcome. If not, I wish her all the best.
Roger

Hi Roger and Jon I must say I was saddened, but not altogether surprised by Nicola's departure. From her postings, it was clear that she had a vast collection of music and varied tastes and, whilst I did not agree with her review of Treasure, I admired her immensley for her candour. Sadly, it seems that she no longer holds Hayley as close to her heart as we do and she felt the need to move on. Nicola, if you do read this, God bless and take care of yourself. Jon, you can go on about Treasure as much as you like Take care all. Grant

Hayley's album Pure was outstanding. Odyssey was a monotonous and disappointing follow-up, which took far too long to be released. At that time, so many different versions of Pure had been released that all the songs featured on all versions of Pure could just about have made up two separate CDs.
This release policy of Hayley's record company regarding Pure has put me off rushing to buy a new Hayley album as much as the bland nature of its successor.
Now I am going to be honest - I haven't purchased Treasure or Celtic Treasure. And I won't do so for a while either. I am going to await the release policy of different version of this album. On past evidence, it may well turn out that I will be receiving better value for money that way.
I have however listened to the excerpts of Treasure available on HWI. They made me think that Treasure is a step ahead compared to Odyssey, but still doesn't match Pure. It remains a monotonous offering of songs.
In my view, Hayley's record company has mismanaged her career. It has badly mismanaged it by releasing a disgracefully different number of versions of Pure - to such a degree that I doubt there has been any other artist who has had so many different versions of one and the same album.
Hayley's record company also let her down by the long time intervals between the release of her international albums.
And just as with many other artists, Hayley's record company appears to attempt to milk Hayley's fans for all it can get out of them.
The completely on-line system by which you can buy individual tracks, which does away with record sales altogether, can't come soon enough. Record companies are ripping off buyers right now with too many re-releases.
Gerrit
P.S. It has been the entire Pure episode with its many versions that cuased me to decide not to buy any new album from any artist with the first 6 months of release - and on some occasions I have been waiting even longer. There is not a single artist with whom I am so infatuated with that I need to have his or her latest album as soon as it is released. And yes, that includes every singer for whom I am running a website ....

Hi Gerrit, I have to say I agree with almost every word you have said although it will not stop me buying every version of Treasure (and all future albums by Hayley) that I can get my hands on. I don't believe I would do that for any other artist. I have no doubt the record companies would give what they perceive as valid reasons for so many version but, yes, it does appear that they are milking the fans. Without being fully conversant with thei release policy (and the reasons for it), I would not suggest mismanagement though. Your PS was particularly appropriate. Perhaps if everyone (including me!) adopted the same policy, the record companies would be forced to take notice and refrain from producing so many versions and re-releases - eventually. Roger

Hello folks! Here's a review of 'Celtic Treasure' from the Los Angeles Daily News, with Hayley's surname corrected by me! www.dailynews.com/entertainment/ci_5497918 (Decca) Westenra's clean, ethereal voice opens her latest effort, a musical treasure-trove of mostly traditional gems from Ireland and America, with a song that the 19-year-old New Zealander co-wrote. The newly composed "Let Me Lie" is a sparse but beautifully rendered love song. Like her interpretations here of "Scarborough Fair," "Shenandoah" and "Danny Boy," the multimillion-selling singer who has performed for royalty and heads of state worldwide is at her best when her gorgeous soprano is allowed to take flight. And fly it does. From "One Fine Day" and "Abide With Me" to even the oddball "Summer Fly," with its Western guitar, fiery fiddle and galloping beat, Westenra is bound to prove yet again she's worth her weight in platinum.
Richard

Pff, Hayley's weight in platinum is only about $2,000,000-2,500,000, a clear underestimate.

That's a great review; thanks for sharing Richard! I agree with you Toronado, $2,000,000-2,500,000 is cleary underestimating Hayley.

Hello Marianne! I also thought it was a good review, even though the reviewer got Hayley's surname wrong in the article! I corrected it in the copy. Congratulations on 300 posts! Unfortunately you need 500 to be a Maestro, but I'm sure you'll be there soon! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest Wishes, Richard
