Does anyone know the lyrics to Jekyll or Flood? I can't tell what she's saying and it's driving me crazy. I've been wanting to sing a few Hayley songs when I go to the Recording Studio (Kind of like when Hayley sang Andrea Bocelli songs when she was little) so if someone could help me soon that would be great. She has such wonderful music but certain songs the words are very difficult to understand. I think Jekyll's in Latin, but I'm not certain.

Hi Jenny and welcome to the forum. You have certainly come to the right place for information on anything 'Hayley' related!

Now to answer your question. It took some finding, but there is quite a lot about 'lyrics' in the "Flood" movie thread.

The following is the jist of it:-

Not content with the comments of the album sleeve, I decided to contact the composer.

I received this reply today:

Thanks for your email about the words in FLOOD.

The "words" were created by Debbie Wiseman, but they don't exist as normal lyrics as they are simply vowels and consonants that work expressively with the melody. They are not words in the normal sense! Within the context of the film, it was felt that words would distract from the drama, so a "vocalise" approach was decided upon, where the sounds Hayley creates match the melody but don't specifically form traditional lyrics.

So, I'm afraid they don't exist in a text format and therefore I can't supply you with them!

There is also an interesting explanation from Debbie about how she uses Hayley's voice in both Jekyll and Flood:-

I didn't want to use something that sounded very operatic or overly "sung" and so for me her voice just sounds like another instrument, it's used as part of the orchestra, it's a colour, but it's the most beautiful colour because it's so individual and distinctive. I think what's lovely about her voice is that it manages to be very emotional without trying too hard. She can sing the most simple phrase, yet the way she phrases it and the way she delivers it invests it with a beauty that gives it extra life.”

Hope that helps and that you now realise why you cannot understand the lyrics - There aren't any!!
