Love the English lyric to Inori BTW. I wonder if Hayley wrote it.

So, are you saying the only way for Hayley to sound classical is to sing opera? I guess I'm a little confused about what constitutes whether someone is singing something in a classical way or not. I've always considered a female singing in a high soprano voice the way Hayley does to be classical, at least in most of her songs. I really can't see any difference from the way she sang Brahm's Lullaby to... Danny Boy, say, except for that Hayley's voice has changed since then. That's the first song that came to mind, so it probably isn't an accurate comparison, but my point is, when she's hitting high notes in classical-sounding songs, how is it not classical? Just because it's not opera. I get so confused as to what the definition of classical is in music/singing, anyway. Who really cares, anyway, as long as she's still showcasing the perfect purity of her voice? To most normal, uninformed people, it will sound classical. It's certainly not pop.

Here's a short clip, please comment after listening to it. It has me singing excerpts of hayley songs, first how she's singing now and followed by how she usually sings/the classical way. Think with an open mind, don't say that I can't compare my voice to hers, the concept is the same. 'Normal' 'Uninformed' people with hearing abilities will be able to tell the difference. soundcloud.com/pradeep-christopher-daniel/hayley-voiceIf you demand for a hayley voice version, I did a longer clip sometime back which got ignored I think. Click hereBasically, she's not singing Legato anymore, vibrato all over the place, loud at abrupt places, bad vocal dynamics (loudness/softness in volume), She's not singing the songs connectedly, short ending notes and it's nasal. I understand that some of her live performances recently have proved otherwise, which is why like you always say, wait for the new album. I sure hope it'll blow my mind, but that wouldn't make the present ones any better , it's just a mere observation. And a wish that things won't stay this way. If people can't get what I'm trying to say after listening to the clip, then it's a lie. I feel bad for starting this over, let's end it here, and continue it in the PM system Libby?

Just to add a confounding note to the discussion about 'classical' (in the broader sense), here's a classical album... by Sting. It sold quite well, for a classical album! I'm sure there are Youtube clips too but I'm not searching them out. www.amazon.co.uk/Songs-From-The-Labyrinth-Sting/dp/B000G8OYZS/ref=ntt_mus_dp_dpt_17By all means have a listen to some of the samples and compare his 'classical' with Hayley's. I like Hayley's 'classical' better. Cheers, Dave

I agree that sometimes she ends notes more abruptly sometimes, and sometimes she sings almost inaudibly in lower notes, usually in an emotional song like I Dreamed a Dream. I agree that isn't perfect singing technique, but nothing Hayley sings ever sounds bad. Imperfect, maybe. Bad? Never. Anyway, as Keith Urban said on American Idol recently, if the singer is connecting emotionally and touching the audience with their performance, then the audience doesn't care if the singing technique is off a tiny bit, it just doesn't matter. I mean, obviously if they're way out of tune or something, then yeah, but Hayley's rarely out of tune. Anyway, even if we think she could do better, it doesn't mean we need to keep acting like she's singing poorly, because that's something she never does. Sometimes emotions get the best of someone's voice. Personally, I would rather they reach me emotionally and sing a tiny bit off, than sing perfectly, yet not conncet emotionally at all. It depends on the song, of course, but most of Hayley's songs these days are emotional.
That's why I enjoy the singer Brandi Carlile so much, because many of her songs, the way she sings them, gets me emotionally. Lately I find that impresses me more these days than just perfect voices, though I definitely do still appreciate them.
I didn't start liking Hayley because I love classical music, anyway. It was her voice, and no matter genre she sings, she sounds amazing, and I really don't care if it's perfectly classical anymore.
It's like the difference between the opera of Samson et Delilah and Filippa Giordano's version of the aria, which is not operatic at all, or even classical. However, in this case it sounds way better, to me. I never liked most classical songs/arias until I heard Hayley's version. While I used to like Charlotte Church, I used to find her more classical songs very dull. Not so with Hayley, though I admit I didn't warm to In Trutina till I saw the Live DVD version. Then, I absolutely loved it.

That's the bit that would tell me who wrote the lyric. But it does read a lot like a Hayley lyric I have to say. Martin D

Hayley's name is probably the only set of Japanese characters I recognise...
Yes, her name is definitely against that track, followed by an & and another name I suspect, but whether that is performers or composers I cannot tell. There are another 4 lines of characters beneath that, so I think it is probably the singers names. But I could be wrong.
