Yes, you are late. LOL Yeah, I remember that. I never miss anything. I do think the duet from 2010 was better, though. Both the singer and Hayley. That was post-Ennio Morricone work, remember.

Haha, I agree, but I gotto say, I still miss the "Aaaa aaaa aa" bit that she usually does in this....at the bridge, was eagerly waiting to hear it in this one, but oh well. That's one of the most beautiful vocalises ever...

I came across this today:
Interesting compilation. I would have thought the last clip would be a more recent one to show the progression of her voice. Anyway, I'm not sure I remember hearing/seeing her sing Romanza. Where was that concert? Also, I recognize The Water is Wide dress but not the venue.
Since nothing new is happening, or rather not much, what's the harm in reminiscing?

I remember there being a very short clip of the Romanza performance. Not sure where it was, but the same place as Pie Jesu, right? I think it might be in the UK though. The Water is Wide was from a TV show, forgot which one. Never any harm in reminiscing!

Hello Paige and Libby! 'Pie Jesu' and 'Romanza' are from the concert with Russell Watson at Auckland Domain on Waitangi Day, 6 February 2002. Here's a slightly longer video of 'Pie Jesu' which includes Hayley's introduction: The impressive building behind the audience is the Auckland War Memorial Museum. There's more information about the park and the museum here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auckland_Domainen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auckland_War_Memorial_MuseumRichard

Yes Richard, lovely performance but doesn't it rather say a lot about the current state of affairs with Hayley that we are discussing a video from 14 years ago ?

Hello Paige, Libby and Richard! Yes, the Romanza clip is from the 2002 Auckland Domain Russell Watson concert but unfortunately, Romanza was omitted from the official concert DVD. The short Romanza clip appears to have been broadcast in 2002 on NZ TV, where perhaps the entire concert was broadcast without cuts, or perhaps more likely, the Romanza excerpt may have been included in one of the NZ current affairs programmes such as 60 minutes, on which Hayley was frequently featured at the time. If anyone from NZ can recall what actually happened, I'd love to know. Anyway, Romanza was first uploaded onto the HWI website back in 2003 and is here - for anyone who can still play Windows Media videos: archive.hayley-westenra-international.com/video-vault/1996-2002_wmv-player/20020206_auckland_romanza.html . My guess is that it was provided by our long time Christchurch member Belinda but I can't be certain of that. Some years later in 2008, one of our members Paulo Correia copied and uploaded that video to Youtube, it's here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4o6GnstD6QThe compilation mentioned a few posts up from here seems to include a copy of Paulo's upload, so it's probably a copy of a copy of a copy of a VHS TV recording! Cheers, Dave

So, I was wrong about Pie Jesu; I guess I always just imagined Hayley in the blue dress singing IDAD when I think of the Russell Watson concert she participated in. As for The Water is Wide, I've just found the video on youtube, and it says it's from Dancing with the Stars on TV NZ.

This is among my top Hayley favorites. I always wonder why she never sang this live, or even as a single. It's got single, or even radio, potential! Flower is one of her oft forgotten songs, and it's so good!!1

And although I love that one I prefer the other, which reminds me of the day I met my dear late wife Sue. Martin D

It seems to have slipped the mods. notice, but the "Flower" video is not the type of video this forum allows, or so I thought.

Yes, you are right, it's a commercial recording.

Hello Paige! I think the Flower video can be considered as fair use for discussion purposes, so I've given it the benefit of the doubt. It isn't a recent recording anyway. Richard
