Harry Potter And the Angel‘s Good Deed
Part 5
Hayley stood in the hallway, waiting. She was nervous, only more so than usual during the start of a performance. “I hope these ghosts like me!” - she kept repeating under her breath.
After a long wait, where was once silence soon become a screeching sound.
The spirits all rushed into together like a pack of wolves, and while Hayley was meant to just stand there, she was incredible nervous. She previously had worries of how they would react to her voice, but now she was just plain scared. Two spirits brushed either side of her, displacing the air, causing her hair to flow, seemingly masking her fears, it did it so majestically.
‘Ready when you are Hayley!’ Harry Shouted over the spirits screeching, “At the top of your voice!” added Hagrid.
Hayley began to sing, but not her original choice of song . ‘Prayer’ seemed more appropriate; Hayley believed the ghosts would understand her words, but her voice, the notes, would suffice.
Hayley sang as loud and with as much integrity as she could find. But……..
…….Nothing happened.
Hayley sang the whole song… twice. Then she sung her original choice. In fact she went through a whole set, but to no avail.
“I don’t understand?” Harry shouted above the screeching, “Why isn’t it working?”
“Can they hear me?” Hayley shouted back. “Yes, we are sure they can my dear!” Dumbledore responded.
Hayley had spent an whole hour singing. The Hogwarts residents couldn‘t even enjoy it because of the racket from the spirits, but it was agreed the ghosts could hear Hayley‘s voice as clear as a bell. “All the spirits are gathered together because of deep fundamental entanglement.” Dumbledore was reminding everyone about what was written in the scriptures. “A possible explanation could be that one of them is trapped somewhere, in another realm, and as far as what is written, this can only happen by use of the Mizar crystal.” Snape was quick to snap. “Are you implying we had something to do with this?”
“Not intentionally, no.” Dumbledore looked towards Harry. “Did you use the crystal for anything other than rescuing your friends?”
“Only to reverse the ice spell.” Harry thought for a second but there wasn’t anything else. The spirits would be disturbed no matter how the crystal was used.
“We need to find out where this spirit is trapped.”
Professor Snape instinctively knew someone was following him, so he stopped and suddenly turned around, only to be faced by Hermione, and he wasn’t in the mood for clever little children.
“Why must you follow me around like a lost puppy?” He put the emphasise on puppy of course, it was another one of those cute little things he hated so much.
“How on earth did you find Brisim? Its not meant to exist, its just a myth that was debunked a long time ago!” asked Hermione
“I have already had a lecture from Professor Dumbledore, it may have served your friend Mr Potter, but to someone of my position it is incredibly humiliating.”
“Sorry!” said Hermione, but she wasn’t, she always likes to see Snape brought down a peg or two.
“Why don’t you ask Mr Potter?”
“I did,” Hermione responded. “But he believes your lying.”
Snape sighed. “What I told him and Dumbledore is the truth - that Brisim came to me.”
“But how did that happen? Where you experimenting with some new magic?”
“No. A portal just opened up, I stepped in and there it was - Brisim - as described in the text, give or take a few details. The guardian may have turned out to be unconventional, but it did its job. I performed a ‘reveal’ spell as the scriptures mentioned the crystal would be hidden, and took the resulting object which was a container with the crystal within it. The texts failed to mention how well decorated the container was,” Hermione interrupted: “All those lovely jewels……Harry told me.”
“Yes I’d thought you’d like that, anyway moving on…. Spirits emerged form the guardian, whisking the crystal away and I found myself flying towards the portal. On insight the spirits were slow enough to run from, but I didn’t expect the portal to open again…… wait a minute! Why am I explaining all this to you, I’ve got more important things to do, like showing Dumbledore that I can be trusted and was influenced partly by the crystal, that and the fact that it saved your life!”
Hermione had a cross expression on her face “It was Harry’s idea though wasn’t it? You just wanted the crystal to yourself. You should of known that if the crystal existed so did the possibility of the spirits being affected!”
“The crystal would have been for the benefit of Hogwarts, It was worth the risk, just a few spirits with a bit of a headache, it would have been worth that for every use of the crystal.”
“But don’t you see! The solution hasn’t worked! Hayley wasn’t able to help them!”
Snape had had enough of this argument. “As much as I’m enjoying this conversation you are just a child, no matter how smart you are, you really can’t understand. I believe Professor Dumbledore’s theory that one of spirits is trapped, why don’t you help the others look for it?”
Hayley was sitting in the hall, the light blinked for a moment as something big went past, but Hayley smiled.
Hagrid had sat down beside her “Don’t worry Hayley. I’m sure the spirits loved your voice, we’ve just got to find their friend who’s trapped in another realm, that’s all.”
“Thank you Hargid.”
Harry appeared all of a sudden and sat down. “We tried a location spell and it appears to have worked. We know where the trapped spirit is. We need your help again Hayley, too free it from that realm, with your voice.”
“Are you sure it will work?”
“Yes, but the realm will be pretty dangerous. Hermione, Ron and Professor Snape will be joining us so you should be quite safe. I’ll leave it up to you Hayley, you don’t have to go, we could try and find another way but we're not sure what that is.”
Hagrid stood up. “If you go Hayley, I’ll be coming to!”
“OK, I’ll do it.” Hayley said. With Harry and Hagrid beside her she knew she would be safe.
