That's a nice one, Graham.................. i like the Celine Dion version of this song...... Greetz Joyce. Thanks Joyce, glad you agree ! I had not head Celine's version before but found it on YOUTUBE it is interesting to hear both their interpretations, they show some similarities, and some differences. It has re-inforced my thoughts that it is just right for Hayley to put her stamp on it ! I would be interested for any more views:- Two links below..... THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE CELINE DIONROBERTA FLACK Looking forward to reading other members views . Best Wishes, Graham

Definitely agree about "First time ever..." It's always been my favourite lovesong since I first heard Roberta Flack sing it in 1972.

The other day I was listening to Sheena Easton's For Your Eyes Only and I thought about how would it sound like if Hayley did a cover of it. Could be interesting.

Hello folks! When Hayley turns 21 next April, she might think about singing some stronger love songs. I suggest Jennifer Rush's 'The Power Of Love', which has a soaring chorus that would suit Hayley's voice rather well. Richard

Well that, is really a strong one, especically the lyrics. Hayley would give it a refreshing touch if she sings it.

When it comes to soulful ballads like "Sonny" you would have to include "Fields of Gold" on the shortlist, though I don't think anyone can hold a candle to Eva Cassidy's version, but I'd like to hear Hayley try. As for classical songs (of which there have to be some on the album), Richard Strauss was well acquainted with the female voice. He married a soprano after giving her singing lessons after all ! As a wedding gift he wrote "Morgen" (Tomorrow) for her. It's a favourite with all Strauss fans and first favourite with many. Although an orchestral song, he also arranged it for violin and piano so it would particularly suit the intimate set which Hayley so enjoys. I'm sure Thomas, Lothar and Karsten would enjoy it too and it would go some way to easing the disappointment of her not performing in Germany anymore.

I hope you all don't mind me resurrecting an old thread. But, I wanted to share some great songs that I think Hayley should sing/record. (After all, she has a 4th international album in the making - but she's probably decided all her songs by now, though). Judging Hayley's choice of songs in Treasure, I think she would do a great job on American folk songs/hymns: On the Celtic side, Other:

Just wondering, is there any evidence Hayley has ever taken a song suggestion from us and run with it? I'd like to see what she could do with some Jacques Brel songs like "Marieke" and "Sons", but I won't hold my breath.

Hi Sonata, You are more than welcome to resurrect old threads. Other members who have registered comparitively recently may not have seen them, in which case, you may have done them a favour! You have come up with some interesting suggestions (but I won't comment on them all!). I have known 'Wayfaring Stranger' for many years and, at first, I didn't even realise it was American! I can hear the melody in my mind and I am sure it would suit Hayley very well. When 'The Ashokan Farewell' forst became popular, I loved it but it has been played so often on Classic FM that I have grown tired of it. Nevertheless, a vocal arrangement might renew my interest in it. Hayley's version of 'Song for Ireland' would be brilliant but I she might feel she cannot perform it anywhere outside Ireland (actually not true) so that might put her off recording it. It is a good choice though. Just wondering, is there any evidence Hayley has ever taken a song suggestion from us and run with it? Not that I know of, Steve, but we do know she looks at the forum when she can. She has certainly been aware of some topics under discussion, so it is alway possible that she may look at this one. Roger

Hi all, I first heard of 'The Ashokan Farewell' when it was used for the soundtrack wonderful PBS series "The Civil War". My family and I visit nearby New York state frequently. Less than an hour's drive is the famous Woodstock. There are some areas, lakes, etc. with the name Ashokan. Here is a website that you may find interesting. www.jayandmolly.com/ashokanfaq.shtmlThis explains the meaning of "Ashokan". The other songs that Sonata mentioned I am familiar with also. 'Come, Thou Font" and "Wayfaring Stranger" were sung by The Von Trapp Children. Best wishes, Joe

I'm not really into pop music, but since Hayley is a crossover singer, she often covers a number of popular works. I heard these at a recent concert, and I thought that Hayley's voice would suit them well: If Hayley ever decided to sing a contemporary Christian song (I prefer hymns, though), I think In Christ Alone would be great. It is written by Irish musicians Keith and Kristyn Getty. The melody sounds a little Celtic. www.last.fm/music/Keith%2B%2526%2BKristyn%2BGetty/_/In+Christ+Alone

Well, having compared Carole King's album Tapestry to Hayley's "Japanese Songs", it occurred to me another possibility for an album sometime might be "Hayley Sings Carole King". I always rated Carole as the second best popular songwriter of the 20th century. But then again, judging by her recent efforts, Hayley's songwriting might be even better than Carole's by the time she gets round to doing it.

Ah yes , Martin you mentioned Carole the other day and I took out Tapestry while I was waiting for the post to arrive.
1973 was just a great year for music , I loved it then and I still play a lot of it to this day
Tubular Bells Dark side of the moon Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Neil Diamond Bruce Springsteen Cat Stevens Paul McCartney and Wings Pin Ups by David Bowie, starts at a 100 miles an hour and just increases the pace until the last note.
