Dear All,
Please review the following report which I submitted to 'Electric Scotland' (a Scottish publicity website) with regard to Hayley's officially registered tartan and brief overview of her outstanding singing career.
I hope this Report helps Hayley to gain even more publicity

The ‘Westenra of Christchurch NZ’ tartan was designed and registered with The Scottish Tartans Authority (www.tartansauthority.com) as a tribute to Hayley Westenra’s outstanding singing gift and beautiful personality. The commemorative tartan seemed appropriate, since Hayley greatly appreciates Scottish heritage. After explaining the inspiration for the design of the tartan, both House of Tartan (www.houseoftartan.com) of Perthshire, Scotland and The Scottish Tartans Authority were extremely helpful and accommodating in fulfilling the requirements for arranging for the tartan to be woven and officially registered. Indeed it was an honour as the tartan designer for me to present Hayley with a tartan sash personally, after her first concert in Scotland this year (Glasgow Clyde Auditorium, April 6, 2006) supporting ‘Il Divo’ on the current World Concert Tour.

Hayley Westenra – New Zealand’s Rising Star
Discovered whilst busking for audiences of shoppers in her home town of Christchurch as an 11 year old, New Zealand singing sensation Hayley Westenra, has a natural talent, which is intuitive to her. Hayley’s school music teacher recognised that Hayley had “perfect pitch” whilst singing a solo during a school Christmas concert at the age of 6. Since then Hayley Westenra has come a long way. Spending her childhood immersing herself in music and theatre, she studied violin, piano and ballet and had appeared in 40 amateur stage musicals in Christchurch by the time she was 11. Encouraged by her parents, Gerald and Jill Westenra, Hayley also busked locally with her two talented younger siblings, Sophie and Isaac. She recorded some of her favourite songs in a professional studio for the first time, at the age of 12. Hayley once commented: “There wasn't a particular point where I realised that I could sing, but from about the age of eight, I knew that I wanted to be on the stage. My grandmother was a singer. My grandfather played the piano and piano-accordion. A lot of my fondness for music came from them, and no doubt from their Welsh and Irish ancestry, too. When I reached 12, I finally knew I wanted to be a singer.”
Hayley recorded 2 albums at the age of 14 under the Universal Record Label. The first of these two albums, Hayley Westenra, features a breath taking live recording of Hayley singing Amazing Grace, accompanied by the pipes and drums of the Royal Scots Dragoons Guards. Now at 19 years of age, Hayley has an International singing career which is outstanding. She is currently performing on a World Concert Tour with ‘Il Divo’. Hayley has duetted with top classical artists such as Andrea Bocelli, José Carreras, Bryn Terfel and Russell Watson. She has performed at London’s Royal Albert Hall, the Sydney Opera House and New York’s Carnegie Hall, in addition to singing live at many prestigious sporting events in the UK, USA, New Zealand and Australia. Hayley has performed for the Queen, Presidents and Prime Ministers. Composers such as Andrew Lloyd Webber have requested to write material for her.
The release of Hayley’s first international debut album entitled, Pure was recorded whilst she was aged 15. This album introduced the world to a unique new voice. Poised, angelic, exhilarating and characterised with a “bell like clarity”, her soprano voice won the hearts of millions. On its release in September 2003, Pure topped the UK classical charts for weeks, as the best-selling début album in history. It also entered the Top Ten at No. 8 in the pop equivalent. Hayley became the fastest-selling debut classical artist of all time. Under her current Record Company ‘Decca’, Hayley has sold over two million albums worldwide with Pure and her follow up album, Odyssey. In 2004 she released a DVD of live concert performances, entitled Hayley Westenra Live from New Zealand. Despite the subsequent conquests of the world's charts, Hayley is still very down to earth. She is still primarily a classical crossover artist but she also wants to keep broadening her musical horizons. It is obvious that she loves what she is doing. A new edition of Odyssey was released by ‘Decca’ this year on April 10, 2006 during Hayley’s Current World Concert Tour with ‘Il Divo’.This new release features a number of new tracks.
During media interviews, Hayley has commented that she loves Scotland, since it reminds her of her home of New Zealand. She has Scottish ancestors on her mother Jill’s side of the family, since one of her great great great grand-parents was Scottish. Hayley comes from a very loving and supportive family. Her father Gerald, mother Jill, sister Sophie and brother Isaac continually support her in her career. Although she misses her family and friends whilst travelling around the world, Hayley remains focused on immersing herself in her music and concerts. Hayley has a very genuine personality and an “infectious laughter”. Her enthusiasm and love of people make her very popular with her Management, travelling Road Crew and indeed everyone she meets.
