Riddle me this: if you didn't know sweet, girl-next-door Hayley Westenra was dating a gorgeous Frenchman she dragged back to her home town of Christchurch at Christmas, would you see this photo from the Royal British Legion's Friends of the Forces awards in London this week and think, "Hey, Hayley is such a flirt" or would you think, "https://i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifang, girl can manage killer heels, a shiny clutch, a glass of wine and a glint in her eye while in front of royalty. Girl's got class."

Our money's on the latter. Multi-tasking is tough at the best of times, but Our Hayls has nailed it. She flashes her dreamy bedroom eyes at Prince Harry, who points and appears to say: "I know you... hang on... it will come to me... did we, er, get it on, little lady?"

The toffy-nosed programme-holder in the pinstriped suit and tie looks aghast, as if to say: "Your Royal Highness, this is Hayley Westenra. Soprano songbird from our colony in the Antipodes. Like Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. The diva who sang at the wedding of your parents, Sir."

And Hayley bats her lashes, hunches her shoulders, and leans in closer to the Prince, ignoring the stuffy courtier, as if to say, "https://i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifunno, maybe," all the while knowing they were never an item, but playing hard to get and figuring "Princess Hayley" has a nice ring to it.

The songbird took to Twitter later that night to gush about the event. "Tonight I was @ the Friends Of The Forces awards dinner put on by the Royal British Legion... I sang and presented an award. Great night!" Of course she omitted her flirtatious encounter with the third in line to the British throne. Quelle surprise. She's a lady.

This is slightly off topic - but i just want to sneak a serious word in about this Harry/Hayley pic. While he might be quite the charming prince in the UK, Harry is looked down upon by many people elsewhere for his wild antics such as wearing a nazi uniform and calling someone from Pakistan a derogatory term. Not everyone will regard this picture of Hayley blithely smiling at him as a good thing. Indeed, the NZ press has pushed the playboy aspect of Harry right into the meeting.

I don't like the article. It disgusts me that anyone would suggest such things about Hayley, even in a joking manner like that. Hayley does not strike me as that type, and I'm pretty sure she's not.

Yes Libby, this article does offend as much as it amuses. The last thing I want to think about is Prince Harry and Hayley "getting it on", as the writer jokes about. I'm a bit surprised this piece was posted in here, knowing how sensitive we've always been to matters involving Hayley's dignity.

Hope I'm not provoking anything here by saying this:
I've always got the idea that New Zealanders treat Hayley as a sort of national treasure (and who wouldn't! haha). And the way they refer to Hayley in this article e.g. "Our Hayls" is so affectionate that I just didn't see the writer's joke as anything else other than what it is, an affectionate little joke. From what was written, Rachel Glucina seems to love Hayley too! Plus, if you think about it, the article might be a little dry if it didn't poke fun at the subjects in the photo. "Prince Harry says hi to and points at our songbird @ Friends of the Forces event" might be the extent of it.

Well, that was just IMO, and for what it's worth, I liked this article, haha it made me laugh. That's pretty much all I have to say.. Oh, not all. Thanks, Jillian and Richard for finding and posting the article

Joanne, the photo alone is enough to remove any dryness. And I think Hayley's "fact" is much better reading than their fiction. I like to read about real Hayley happenings, not fake nonsense.
I will say that I prefer Harry to William as far as looks, but other than that, I have not much interest in them whatsoever.

Yes, they seemed to be enjoying each other's company. But whatever passed between them, I doubt it was anything like what the writer suggested. I think he was just trying to make his article amusing rather than offend.

I stand corrected. But you never know, Hayley used to be a boy's name before Hayley Mills came along!

Yeah, but Rachel is a bit different.

In my lifetime, I've only heard names like Hayley, Ashley, Leslie, Lindsay, etc. as girl names, although they used to be boy names.
But nowadays the tendency is to give beautiful girls not so beautiful boy names. I guess that must be what people thought when they started using the above names for girls, but I'll never like Madison, Taylor, or Skyler for a girl.
