Hi All
I must report the following change in my daughter, Katie.
Katie has always been a fan of loud music which has been in danger of damaging our ear drums and those of our neighbours !
Since way back, whenever Hayley's name was mentioned Katie rolled her eyes and made comments like "Do you ever talk about anyone else?"
She often heard tracks from Pure playing around the house and in the car. More eye rolling and sharp out-takes of breath !
Suddenly one day she heard a complete track on her car radio. She heard it through and realised what she had been missing !!
That same night she called me to ask where she could go to see Hayley in concert. Not long after this she accompanied us to Piccadilly where she was totally bowled over by Hayley's performance.
I took her to meet Hayley afterwards, but she beat me to it and introduced herself and they had a chat about shoes !! Girls !!
Katie now listens to Classicfm in the car and watches Classicfm tv !!
Another convert to the cult.

The cult? Perish the thought if the day arrives when classical music or crossover is thought of as a cult. It's just that Katie, unlike a lot of people her age, seems to be open to new things and not ashamed to like something that isn't today's fad.

Well I have tried and it might happen, but perish the thought, she might argue with me there as well, Roger !!

Problem solved Barrie. This is one place where your authority over her is absolute.

Great story Barrie!
I know of someone whom I can convert to a Hayley fan (she's 13 and listens mostly to Aselin Debison, so this shouldn't be to hard). Which song would you suggest I play to get her addicted?

Hi Barrie,
That's a great story regarding your daughter. As more young classical artists are introduced, it's my hope that more children and young adults will sit up and take notice.
Someone, about that potential Hayley fan, perhaps she could borrow Pure or Odyssey for a bit. Alternatively, I'd suggest the songs 'Wuthering Heights', 'Beat Of Your Heart', and 'Prayer'.

Hi someone, I think you would be the best person to select a track for your friend as you are of similar age. For what it's worth, I agree with Joe that 'Wuthering Heights' is likely to be a good choice, especially the version that appears on the Amercian version of Pure as it is slightly different (better) than the that which is on all the other versions. I also have to recommend 'Pokarekare Ana' as it seems to have proved so popular amongst so may people - including me! Do let us know if you succeed in concerting her! If she should wish to join this forum, perhaps she will call herself "someone else"! Roger

I think Wuthering Heights would work too. Actually, it was the song that got me hooked. I put the CD on shuffle and it came out second; so I listened to it and immediately realised that Hayley would be my new favourite singer! I'll keep you posted! Thanks or your input!

As it's now November, it's time I made an answer to Someone's request. Sadly, it's still not possible !
I lay awake at night, agonising about which track of Hayley's is my favourite, the conclusion I come to, always, is all of them. I listen to Hayley's inclination of various notes and think "I like that !" I like to feel goose bumps as I hear another favourite track. I strain to hear an intake of breath and fail miserably.
The answer for your friend can only be "You listen to each track and then tell me what is your favourite". Then it will be too late and she will be unable to back away from the inevitable !

I know from personal experience that that's not true.

I must have explained that to someone a million times (there's another one... in fact, two for the price of one... can you spot both of them?) Cheers, Dave
