Hi Raymond,
That is quite right. He is a gemologist. And a very good one, too.
Cheers, Keith.

You can find this information in the book about Hayley too. Thank you for this interesting link to Gerald's shop. Greetings, Lothar

BTW, is he back in the business yet? I kinda figured he might get back into it as Hayley became more independent.
I did try the joke out on him about Hayley being his rarest gem of all, but that got no more than a forced snicker. I guess he had heard that one seven or eight times too many.

Hi Raymond,
Thanks for sharing that link about Gerald's shop. Looks like it's quite a swanky place!
Of course, he found a "rare gem" when he met Jill, and certainly they have three "precious" children. They all bring a "sparkle" to my eye.

Great comment, Joe, amidst the many facets of our discussion here. Wocka! Wocka! (beeps bicycle horn)

... I did try the joke out on him about Hayley being his rarest gem of all, but that got no more than a forced snicker. Yes, she is multifaceted and unflawed, but also her voice rings crystal clear, her CD's are gold and platinum, and her mum's maiden name is synonymous with the Emerald Island. I should have asked him if he liked dining at Ruby Tuesdays or enjoyed NY Times' columnist William Safire, but hey.

I've heard Jill's just been to the grocer's and bought eighteen carats! Exit, stage left! Richard

I don't mean topaz judgement, but I'm sure professionals in the gemology business have been earring these lame jokes for years. How jaded they must be. They would surely like to pour De Beers over our heads by now.
