Thanks to Melody and from the March UCJ Newsletter (I read it but missed this one!): Here is the tracklisting from Amazon UK1. Cinema Paradiso - Martin, Will 2. Laschia Ch'io Pianga - Westenra, Hayley 3. Flight Of The Bumble Bee - Garrett, David 4. 1492 Conquest Of Paradise - Blake (3) 5. Here's To The Heroes - Ansell, Jonathan This is a "Various artists" EP (Extended Play) and is the closest UK equivalent to the Japanese "Mini-Album". It is listed at £4.99 and it will *probably* be eligible to enter the Budget Albums chart and the Classic FM chart - but not the main album chart or Classical Artist chart. Interesting idea is this, perhaps the first shot in the promotion of Will Martin's debut album due out in the UK June? Hayley's track Lascia is in my opinion the best "straight classical/operatic" song she has ever recorded, I love it (but i already have it twice!). The Classical Brit awards is mentioned by UCJ so this may be an indication of five acts who will be taking part in it and (I hope!) not just nominated? Dave

Hi Dave. Just to let you know that it's selling for £2.99 on HMV online - with no postage costs. I suspect Amazon might bring the price down nearer to the release date. Do you think that places like Woolworths will stock it? I hope it is an indication of who is performing at the Brits - I'm desperate for official confirmation of the duet! Love Melody xx

Hi Melody, I'm glad about the cheaper HMV price, I thought £4.99 was too much, I'm sure Amazon will bring it down. This is a new idea so i don't know if Woolies and the Supermarkets will stock it but hopefully, UCJ have sorted this out in advance. I've just noticed that it's a "Classic FM Presents! album so loads of airplay on that station - and they usually do TV ads too - which will hopefully persuade all the shops/stores to take it. Cheers, Dave

Disclaimer : Nothing against Hayley and I am NOT being a jerk or a troll . I am just trying to offer a new perspective. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1) I think that the very idea of producing this kind of "popera compliation" CD is just SOOOOOOOOOOO overblown and over-used. I look at my own CD shelf and I can see copies of different versions of such a kind of compliation CD. I have purchased the versions of No.One Classical Album 05-08 . And I am not even an avid collector of such a kind of CDs . Surely there are many more different versions circulating in the market right now. 2) Looking at the cover and the tracklisting of this EP , I just don't think that it would be very marketable because all the 5 tracks have already been released before , on the personal albums of the respective artists of course . It would , IMO , seem really redundant to buy another one . 3) From a purely BUSINESS perspective , if ever Universal Music wishes to continue producing such a kind of CD , IMO , a better idea would be inviting Her artists , Hayley included, to record a set of completely never-released-before tracks . Maybe each artist could contribute to 1 or 2 brand new track(s) . This would , ultimately , make the CD very marketable . Since something that is a rarity and a novelty can always allure the fans to spend money . Just my 2 cents ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yes but it's just a promotional tool, one of many and record companies need to use everything they have, in these days of falling record sales. Probably intended to help bring the new singers into the public eye or remind the public of established ones who, like Hayley, have been out of the public eye for a while in the UK. I don't think this kind of album is aimed at existing fans but if it gets Hayley some airplay on Classic FM before the Classical Brits (although after the voting closes), I'll be glad they released it. Nobody has to buy these kind of CDs or download the tracks and I certainly won't. Dave

I'm liking the sound of that Dave! Any extra publicity and promotion for the featured artists can only be a good thing. Love Melody xx

Hello Dave, Thanks for the info - I think releasing this mini CD is a very good idea. Interesting idea is this, perhaps the first shot in the promotion of Will Martin's debut album due out in the UK June? Not exactly. His song "Going Home" was included in the No.1 Classical Album 2008 but Will's picture wasn't on the cover so I guess we can consider this as a major improvement Stephany

Hi all, A little bird tells me that Will Martin and Hayley are doing a photoshoot together today for this album. I don't know if Jonathan and the others are there too. It is very likely that some of the pictures will be featured in the newest issue of Classic FM mag. Stephany

Hello everybody! According to the latest email from Decca, this CD features an exclusive recording of 'Lascia Ch'io Pianga' by Hayley, so it may not be the version from 'Odyssey'. I'll probably buy this CD next week. Richard

Hi Richard and everyone I've also received an Email about this CD today and it has a 'click here' to buy the album. I could not believe the HMV offer price of £2.99 with free delivery against a full price of £18.99!! Although this does seem expensive for a five track CD. My order has already gone through! Best wishes Grant

Hayley's "Lascia Ch'io Pianga" can be found on various and sundry recordings, from Celtic Woman's ANJ to her own single, to this "new" compilation. Is there any other song of hers more widely scattered? I think not!

Hello everyone
Although I only ordered this CD at 3.45pm this afternoon, I've since had an Email advising me that it's already in the post!
Best wishes Grant

Hi Grant,
That's good to know - I also may have to order it because I just realized that I forgot to bring Will Martin's CD insert in my luggage. I need to find something in replacement for next Friday when I see him again! I also look forward to discovering David Garrett - I heard so much about him!
Lots of love Stephany xx

It doesnt take a great deal of paraphasing from that press release to make the suggestion that Hayley is being "tipped" to "take over the mantle of" Maria Callas. I am not sure this is the best idea I have heard today....
Dave - It it isnt aimed at existing fans, who exactly is it aimed at? The 12 people or so who like classical crossover music in the UK and dont already have a copy of Pure? The former fans of Maria Callas? I am a bit confused.
The concern that I have, of course, hearkens back to the unpopular comments made by Kiri.....isnt it fair to construe that this sort of publicity is in fact an attempt to put Hayley "in her world"?
Jon
