Hi Grant, For the time being, yes. Hayley told me in July that she had reached her target and was considering her next project (possibly to eradicate the effect of Guinea worm). Until that campaign is agreed and fully set up by UNICEF, the Bikes for Ghana appeal continues. Roger Hi Roger. I'm glad you updated us on that because we weren't actually sure in the end as she said she needed to check it out. Again jolly well done everyone. That really is a stupendous effort for such a small school of such young people. Peter S.

Hayley joking with some of the children. Steve Has anyone noticed the way Hayley wears her jumper sleeves? I don 't recall seeing anyone do that before, I've always seen them rolled back over. Post amended Friday 3rd November by postscript who discovered he had edited in the wrong picture! NOW YOU CAN SEE WHAT I MEAN! Peter S.

Hi All,
It really was a wonderful experience watching Hayley chatting to some of the children at the School yesterday. Those little ones were truly enchanted by her! Hayley's natural gift of building a rapport and putting people at ease (us included!) was very clear for all to see. It was delightful to see how quickly the children warmed to Hayley as she crouched down to chat to them. She even joined in with some of the games in the playground too! I was particularly amused to see Hayley pulling a little boy along on his tricycle- it was lovely!
During the school assembly, a short "questions and answers" session was arranged between Hayley and the children. Hayley's work with UNICEF and her associated visit to Ghana were discussed. Hayley was then presented with a cheque from staff and pupils of the School as a donation to UNICEF, for the fundraising total achieved by the School. A large group of the children surprised us all with a very endearing recital of 'Pokarekare Ana' for Hayley. The children had apparently practised this piece over and over in class in preparation for Hayley's visit. It was quite touching to witness the joy on the faces of Hayley and the little ones, as the children sang to Hayley! Hayley looked completely wowed! by this lovely idea. In return, Hayley performed a spectacular a capella rendition of 'Prayer' for us all. Squeals of delight and loud applause filled the hall. A floral presentation to Hayley and Kathryn (Hayley's manager) then took place and this was followed by a signing and photography session between Hayley and the children.
After the School assembly, Stuart very kindly invited us to attend an impressive buffet which had been organised for Hayley's visit. There was a healthy spread of fruit, cakes and savoury snacks to choose from. Indeed it was a privilege to chat to Georgina (the UNICEF Representative) and her colleague, in addition to Stuart's work colleagues- the assistant head teachers, Shaun and Jenny over a glass of wine. The real guests of honour were of course Kathryn and Hayley. Hayley politely declined the offer of a glass of wine, insisting that water was a healthier choice for her voice. Kathryn commented that Hayley's new album was shaping up nicely, but no clues were provided in terms of the material for the new album, despite numerous questions and "digs" from 'HWI' members present... So we all remain in suspense!
Thank you very much Stuart for organising this wonderful event. With you as the co-ordinator, the staff and pupils of Alfred Salter School, have shown some real dedication to Hayley and to her work! I really appreciated your very kind invitation. Steve, Roger and Dave have captured some of the highlights of the day for us all in their fantastic photographs! Thank you so much Kathryn and Hayley for making our dreams come true!

Hayley with Stuart. Welcome back Hayley! Steve Has anyone noticed the way Hayley wears her jumper sleeves? I don 't recall seeing anyone do that before, I've always seen them rolled back over. Peter S. I had to look back at the pictures to see what you meant Peter. It is actually quite a common style for youngsters these days. All I can say is that I have a shirt that keeps trying to do that and it mithers me to death!! Grant

Thanks for all the kind comments on the photographs taken yesterday, It was a pleasure to share the event with you all, it would have been impossible for Stuart to invite more people than he did due to restrictions on space, but hopefully we have been able to convey to those not there that HWI were there representing you all! To keep the thread going a little longer I will post a few more tonight. Here are some more taken during the singing of Prayer [/img] Steve H

Hi Guys
Many thanks for all your kind comments, for the reviews and photos.
Having reflected on Hayley's visit yesterday, one or two things struck me. The first was Hayley's thoughtfulness. When the local press set up a shot of her with half the 12 pupils at the front of the hall, she insisted he did the same with the other six. The second point is that Hayley is only 8 years older than our oldest pupils and despite a maturity that belies her 19 years that has come from her career and life experiences, , she is able to empathise with the pupils and genuinely respond to their enthusiasm. Each time she visits us, more and more pupils and staff are completely captivated by her talent, personality and ability to relate to everyone.
Gerald and Jill must be so proud to see their daughter striving to make the world a better place for others and the way she finds time to make visits like the one yesterday; an experience that staff, pupils and vistors alike will cherish, and none more so than me - Thank you Hayley.
