Hi Stephany,
Thank you for the information concerning Hayley's latest project. Having looked at the UNICEF site, it would appear that her Bikes for Ghana appeal is still continuing as well. We will try to confirm that when we see her on Friday.

Hello everyone!
I'm sure I read somewhere that the 'Bikes For Ghana' total had reached 5800, but that another 6000 were needed. I don't think it actually said the project would be continuing, but presumably it will, until the total has been reached.
There's been mention of Hayley wanting to get the Guinea Worm project going before as well - looks like she has now got her wish.
Best of luck with both Hayley!!
Of course, that now creates a dilema! which one to donate to? Pick one, or some to each? Decisions, decisions!
Grant

Now I remember! Hayley first mentioned that she would like to be involved in a campaign working towards the eradication of Guinea worm when we saw her in Newmarket. That was over a year ago (July 2006). Because no further news had been forthcoming, I assumed she had decided to continue the Bikes for Ghana appeal instead. It now looks as though she will be supporting both but we will try to confirm the exact position of a few days time.

This is such a wonderful new project fo Hayley, and I wish her all the best with it. Whoever invented PlayPumps was a genius; it is such a great system and I hope it brings in lots of water all over Ghana.
Her caring attitude never ceases to amaze me.

Hi Everyone, This page & video gives a very good idea of how a playpump is received in an African village. www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/rough/2005/10/south_africa_th.html#Very clever....the cost of installation is also quoted....for 2005 $US 7000.00....present cost is about $US 14000 it seems. Serious stuff. Graeme

Hi Graeme
Thank you for finding that very interesting and informative video about Play Pumps.
The initial cost sounds very high at US$14,000 but interestingly, listening to the commentary, each one can provide water for 2,500 people. The cost then becomes US$5.6 per person which equates to less that NZ$7.5 or about half the cost of one of Hayley's bikes.
This has got to be another winner for Hayley and UNICEF
Best wishes Grant

Something that readers may like to take note of concerns donations to UNICEF. One of ‘our lot’ told Hayley that he hadn’t been able to decide what to get her for Christmas, so had decided on a donation to one of her projects. Hayley was asked to choose which one and she chose the ‘Playpump’ scheme as “We really need to get that one off the ground” whereupon a short discussion about playpumps ensued. I wasn't going to mention this, but seeing as Grant has brought up the subject, it seems a good time to resurrect this thread as a reminder about the more serious things in life. After Eugene's amazing work for the Dublin concert on raising money for the "Bikes for Ghana" scheme, I guess that is why Hayley elected for the Play Pumps appeal. I understand there will be some more coverage on this in early 2008. See link to donate unicef.org.nz/cgi-bin/donation_form.pl?id=30Strangely, on the website it asks what inspired you to make a donation. After mulling over the options I settled on word of mouth (i.e. the forum), although if the "other" box had requested details I'd have picked that option and said Hayley. Interesting to see the credit on the publicity photo for the appeal, none other than Jill Westenra. Regards, James

Hi Dave
Having just 'popped' over to the official site to look at the info posted aboout Hayley's single, I had a quick scan across the other info.
I was quite surprised to see that there is no mention under UNICEF of Hayley's "Playpumps" Project, although "Bikes For Ghana" and WEN are both shown.
Perhaps another word to Mr Abbott?
Best wishes Grant
