It seems everybody's giving out awards these days (Oscars, TUIs, Brits, Nobels, etc) so why not HWI? I say it's about time we hatched our own prestigious honours to bestow in various categories of achievement in regards to Hayley. We can be imaginative at it, too. So without further ado I propose the "2007 HWI Awards" -- the trophies being called "Hayley's" unless someone comes up with a better name. Here is a list of categories in which to win a "Hayley", the nominees to be announced in the weeks ahead: - Best Hayley Solo Concert Review
- Best Hayley & Others Concert Review
- Best Hayley Concert Photo -- Wide Shot
- Best Hayley Concert Photo -- Close Up
- Best After-Concert Photo
- Best Before-Concert Report
- Best After-Concert Anecdote
- Best Hayley Album Review
- Best Hayley News Tip
- Best Hayley Old News Research
- Best Meeting-Hayley-For-The-First-Time Account
- Best On-Topic Forum Post
- Best Off-Topic Forum Post
- Best Assistance Rendered To Anther Hayley Fan
- Best Forum Moderating
- Best Forum Picture Linking
- Best Overall Hayley Fan
[/b] Other categories welcomed! Please suggest away!

Hi Steve
I must say that I quite like the idea. I guess there would have to be some sort of voting system set up and nominees would have to be put forward etc. I don't know much about how this could set up, but I'm also guessing it could take some organising. Any one else have any thoughts ?

Sorry, guys,
I have to admit that I'm not enthusiastic about the proposal.
What I liked about HWI, when I first came to it some months ago, was the friendly, helpful non-competitive comraderie I found here.
I'd really hate to see that spoiled by introducing a competitive spirit among ourselves.
Maybe things are competitive enough here already - with (e.g.) membership titles awarded for the numbers of posts.
Perhaps that's just me! I suspect my view is likely to be a minority one.
Sincerely, Paddy

Hi Paddy, I think you make a very valid point about this forum not being competitive. If Steve's suggestion is ever introduced, it would only be for fun and not something that we would wish to take too seriously. I would point out that the membership categories based on the number of posts are part of the automatic default settings. We could change the milestones or even abolish the system altogether but I feel it is reasonable to recognise the loyaly of those members who contribute so regularly over a long period of time. However, quantity alone is unimportant and, as far as HWI is concerned, it is not supposed to be competitive... even if I am winning! Roger

Hi everyone! Good point, Paddy. I wouldn't vote anyway simply because it would give me a headache to pick among all the high-quality posts of the forum. It is not supposed to be competitive... even if I am winning! Stephany

Awards - ok 'for fun' of course. But I believe they could encourage some/many to 'take it far too seriously'. I agree fully that the loyalty and dedication of members should be recognised (but uncompetitively). Indeed, that outstanding loyalty was something that was very noticeable to me as a new member. But I have to admit that I wasn't impressed the few times I noticed 'post competition', for fun or otherwise. If all is as in the spirit of your last remarks: 'quantity alone is unimportant and, as far as HWI is concerned, it is not supposed to be competitive... even if I am winning! ' then my reservations are unfounded. Paddy P.S. I wonder who's winning the 'spelling bee'? Hoots Mon!

Hello folks! I've been keeping out of this thread because I didn't want to be the first to comment. I fully agree that we shouldn't make the forum too competitive, because this could put some members off. It's really the loyalty and camaraderie of our members that makes this forum such a special place for everybody, including our guests. Best Wishes, Richard

Hi everyone, I tend to agree with Richard on this one, forums tend to introduce these kinds of competitions or games to swell the number of members or to increase the activity of the membership, but in our case in both of these areas we are already very strong. Steve H

Best Wishes, Richard Hi Richard and everyone,I agree with you Richard especially those of us who are at a BIG disadvantage, re the number of concerts that we get to see in comparison with you guys in the UK. The last time I seen Hayley perform was nearly two years ago here in CH CH NZ back in Jan I think it was 2006. Or though we didn't know one another then, I think Graeme & Marianne, & Belinda were also at the same concert. So it is easy to see the disadvantage in comparison with those lucky So & So's who reside in the UK and are able to get to see and hear Hayley perform in different venues. This is just my opinion cheers, Rodders

This thread proves what I said about HWI members: What I liked about HWI, when I first came to it some months ago, was the friendly, helpful non-competitive comraderie I found here. Like Richard, I hesitated to comment, as the previous responses were all in favour. I needn't have worried ... Just shows members can freely express opposite views on HWI, without personalised 'arguments'. Paddy

Well I'll be darned! I thought this proposal would be met with universal praise, considering its lighthearted intent. Just goes to show some of us take things far more seriously than others. Personally, I think it would have been nifty to bestow bragging rights to our favourite commenters and photographers. I mean, a Hayley Award isn't exactly something to sneer at.
In any event, all the posters above are to be commended for their thoughtful remarks. An honourary Hayley goes to all just for taking part!

Hi Steve Never mind as I am sure it was well intended but perhaps also there were just too many categories.
As you know we are a very humble lot here on the Forum and to be expected to vote for other members, even in good fun, was over ambitious.
Best wishes

[/b] Other categories welcomed! Please suggest away! [/quote] Indeed, I think that competition is usually a good thing, but perhaps not quite so in this very friendly forum. Especially since the predicted winners of the contest are shown below: *Best Hayley Solo Concert Review: Gene (Hayley's Ulysses performance in NYC). *Best Hayley & Others Concert Review: Gene (Same night, when everyone performed at Ulysses in NYC). *Best Hayley Concert Photo -- Wide Shot: Gene (when he dropped his camera and it went off by itself - Hayley's beautiful shoes). *Best Hayley Concert Photo -- Close Up: Gene (Hayley, from 1,000 meters away, with Gene's 1,000 magnification lens). *Best After-Concert Photo: Gene (at Ulysses in NYC, from under his bar stool...standing was somewhat difficult at the time...). *Best Before-Concert Report: Gene (For his Buxton Opera House, April 5, 2008 performance....entitled "I was there In Spirit"!). *Best After-Concert Anecdote: Gene ("Yes, I was indeed there in spirit"). *Best Hayley Album Review: Gene ("Great record album and an excellent Frisbee too!!!"). *Best Hayley News Tip: Gene ("Look up everyone, Hayley's, flying over in a helicopter"!) *Best Hayley Old News Research: Gene ("NZ Granted Independence Today"!!!) *Best Meeting-Hayley-For-The-First-Time Account: Gene (When he asked Hayley to sign HIS picture and then later woke up in the alley!). *Best On-Topic Forum Post: Gene (Hayley's tremendous energy vs. the energy in Gene's 1,100 horses) . *Best Off-Topic Forum Post: Gene ("British horsepower vs American horses"). *Best Assistance Rendered To Another Hayley Fan: Gene (Finally removed Tinker Bell from Richard's shoulder). *Best Forum Moderating: Gene (For his "Goodnight everyone"). *Best Forum Picture Linking: Gene (What's a link?) . *Best Overall Hayley Fan: Gene (Paid everyone to vote for him).
