Hi folks. Would a CHAT ROOM facility be desirable or available on this site. ? It might help to reduce the conversation type posts that can fill up a thread sometimes. It might also help reduce the VASTNESS of the forum. I have often found it daunting to find a thread has 20 or 30 pages with hundreds of replies only to find much of it is banter, which I am guilty of myself i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif, But maybe that is what makes the forum the fun that it is.. Nor do I want to usurp Belinda's monthly chats. Maybe this is a bad idea. Any other opinions ? And of course Is it technically possible and does it need to be supervised etc. comet

I think thats a good idea Comet. Belinda did say we could arrange our own chats.

It would require some reorganizing of the site, and a fair bit of programming, but it does sound like an excellent idea!

Hi Comet,
Thanks for the suggestion, yes it can be done and yes it would need a moderator present at all times. It is that last part which prevented us from setting up a chat room when it was discussed about two years ago (perhaps more). None of the moderators at the time would have been available and willing to do it due to time restraints and most were not particularly favourable (including Keith who was the forum owner at the time).
I don't believe a chat room would reduce the amount of banter on the forum, and neither would I wish it to (provided the banter fell within the normal forum rules, of course).
Jon, when Belinda suggested that we can arrange out own chats, I think she meant on her site, not on this forum. Anyway, as the two sites are closely linked, I see no reason to set up a second chat room facility while Belinda is happy to run hers.

Hi Roger, I thought a chat room would allow people to let off steam (e.g me! ) But if it was to follow the new rules of this forum I would be banned! I do like the idea of running a second chat (I've just logged on to Belinda chat to show that you can go in there at anytime!). But I needs someone to arrange it.

I'm sorry Dave I meant 'Not follow the rules' but I'm being silly. I got mixed up I'm sorry.

Hi everyone
I guess that if Belinda has no objections and you wanted to chat to another member, all you would need to do is to arrange a time between you to log into Belinda's chat room and - your away ! Thats not a bad idea Comet - thanks for reminding me its possible !
Best regards Mark

I entirely agree with your No 3 post, Roger. As one who is still ploughing through the 800 posts since my last serious visit here, this forum can be very fast repartee.
Allowing for the diverse time scales the balance we have between Belinda's initiative and this forum works well. The chat room is nice periodically but even then it runs over a long period for all the key time zones to be covered. I don't know how Belinda manages as she seems to be there throughout the period.
