I'm no Simon Cowell, but imagine this: An all-female supergroup composed of four young and attractive singers in the classical crossover tradition!
The quartet would include Hayley Westenra, Becky Taylor, Yulia Townsend and an American, perhaps Taylor Kirk.
There's obviously a market for great crossover done right by charismatic, stylish vocalists. It's not unfair to say Bocelli, Watson and Groban paved the way for Il Divo's meteoric rise, nor would it be wrong to use Il Divo's fine example to launch a distaff equivalent with its own special bag of tricks.
The larger trick is to find the right vocalists -- something Cowell proved can be done. I'm guessing the four ladies I named would be exactly the right combination of timbres, backgrounds, charm and dedication to craft to win the hearts of the arena-going crossover consumers. And of course, they can continue to pursue individual projects if they'd still want to.
How's that for a suggestion?

And of course, the group would be called Il Diva . There's of course other candidates - problem is, do they fit? And does it fit their own plans for their future career? Other candidates I can think of are Holly Holyoake, Saara Aalto, Stefanie Rose and perhaps even Lauren Musumeci. All very good singers. Actually, I think Hayley would be the least likely candidate here, as she has already carved out a niche as quite an established singer, quite capable of pursuing an independent career. So is katherine Jenkins, that's why I would not recommend her for such a feature either ... And I think Zoë would be too young for such a venture at this stage ... Cheers, Gerrit

Hi Steve, You're right, you are no Simon Cowell but, given sufficient time to practice, he might JUST reach your level of foresight, imagination and ability to recognise true talent when he hears it! No offence implied or intended towards Il Divo..... just to Simon Cowell! Gerrit is right, there are many contenders for the supergroup but, for me, the line-up of Hayley, Becky, Yulia and Taylor cannot be beaten. I have but one question..... Where can I book tickets? Roger

Vocally, I think Hayley, Becky, Yulia, and Holly would make a perfect group. They all have different vocal styles, unique voices, tons of charisma, and sweet personalities; which would take them very far as a group. Of course, some of them have already gone very far on their own, which makes it unlikely that a group like this will happen, but I can imagine that they would sound very nice together. Interesting question. Oksana

Seeing the renewed discussion of "Sure-fire ways for Hayley to succeed in the US" made me want to revive this thread.
It's time Hayley was brought together with some true peers to form a supergroup that doesn't specialise in Celtic music.
She could join forces with Celine Dion, Sarah Brightman and Enya -- all established international superstars whose combined talent could synergise magnificently with Hayley's. The only thing is the other singers must be extremely well known and have talent to burn. Pick your favourites. Hayley could more than hold her own in any star grouping, even if she's not a belter like Celine.
Great idea, huh?

Viva la Diva Steve? As far as "imaginary supergroups" go, this one ain't bad. I dont Enya could hold her own actually..... Jon

Not sure about Sarah either. I did an A/B comparison of Hayley's Scarborough Fair against Sarah's. There is no comparison, Hayley blows her out of the water IMO.
Actually thinking about it, how about a supergroup consisting of Hayley, Katherine, Sophie and Isaac. Oh, wait a minute, I've seen that somewhere before!!

don't think Issac would be able to be part of it: he's not a gal!

don't think Issac would be able to be part of it: he's not a gal! Hi NL. Your nickname intrigues me. Are you from up north? I lived in Arctic Sweden myself for several years in the 70s, so have seen many fine displays of the real NL. Well, his (Isaac's) voice must just about be breaking now anyway. How about Meav instead? Ok, Meav will do. But I'd rather have Lynn Hilary of Celtic Woman!!!!!!!
According to the map, I live in Connecticut, but according to everything else, I live in Canada, Nova Scotia or Newfoundland. I have never seen the Lights, but some people I know have seen them from my small CT town
