Hello Techfans,
I am writing this at 6:15 p.m. Friday nite (2/15), just wondering.
On the main forum page where there is the count of total members, underneath is the name of the new member.
This week I believe I saw the count at 241 on Monday & the same count on Tuesday. Now Wednesday it was at 242, the same with Thursday & today Friday, and each day a new member joined?
Is the counter working? Or am I missing something (which is very possible).
Thank You, Howard

Yes Howard, the counter is working fine. Accounts which are not used for a prolonged period are eventually closed which is why the total can sometimes go down.

One thing of note is that the membership here when I joined 11 months ago was around 150-155 - varying as it does for the reasons Roger mentiones. That means there has been - and continues to be - significant growth. Both Hayley and site management here are clearly doing something right, (even if I dont always agree with their specific decisions ). So, this is as good of an oppurtunity as any to express my personal appreciation for what they do. Jon

Thanks for your kind words, Jon! In case anybody has tried counting the membership the hard way, there is a minor error in the count caused by a glitch in the forum software. There should be 20 names on each page of the member list, but page 11 only has 19. This means we currently have 240 members, not 241 as shown. We've tried recounting the members, but the error remains. Richard

Thanks Richard. You are quite right but we are told that the error will be corrected when we upgrade to Proboards Version 4.5. Indications are that could be any day now. In all other respects, the counter is working as it should.

Thanks Roger Do you know whether or not there will be any disruption to the Forum whilst the upgrade is taking place? and will we notice any changes afterwards? (other than the one you mentioned of course!) Best wishes Grant

Hi Grant,
It is possible that the forum may be unavailable for a short period - hopefully no more than an hour or two. There will be a few additional features but I am not sure it will be anything wildly exciting. As an example, I believe we will be able to introduce a poll in the middle of a thread and retract our votes if we wish. The "Members Online in the last 24 hours" should appear automatically (and not by adding coding as we have done).
Proboards are upgrading one server at a time but not necessarily in sequence. Hopefully, I should receive a notification message of when our server (No 20) is to be upgraded. I haven't received it yet! If I have any significant news, I will post it on the Announcements board.

Thank you Roger Hopefully then, you'll get enough notice to give members an advanced warning. That should prevent a few coronary's! Best wishes Grant

(I believe the admin account that started this forum is marked as invisible.) Gerrit

Hi Gerrit,
Yes, the counter does include invisible users. They still appear on the membership list; the only difference is that they are not seen as being online.
