As it says in the News Fader on the home page, PURE has gone 5 TIMES PLATINUM in New Zealand. This represents sales of 75,000 which, with a population of less than 4,000,000 is the equivalent of 1 in 53 people owning a copy.
Sincerest and most heartfelt congratulations to Hayley for a magnificent result.
Keith.

According to the handout we were given at last night's UNICEF concert in London, Pure has now sold in excess of 2,000,000 copies worldwide.
Congratulations Hayley!

According to the handout we were given at last night's UNICEF concert in London, Pure has now sold in excess of 2,000,000 copies worldwide. Congratulations Hayley! Yes indeed, thanks for the info, Roger! I am, however, sceptical of Decca these days - they tend to quote figures for CDs shipped from the warehouse to shops, not the true "over the counter" sales! Two million shipments sounds highly likely now shops are stocking up for Christmas - across the counter it's much less likely. Could you possibly quote the relevant sentence(s) from the UNICEF handout? So I can try to read between their lines you see! Pretty please? I noticed that on Des & Mel today they introduced Hayley as having sold over a million CDs in the UK. She hasn't - it's more like 700 to 800 thousand (I have a contact who gets occasional access to Official Charts Company sales figures). Even a million "shipments" is unlikely because Pure would have already been declared triple platinum and I don't think it has (as of last Friday). Of course, if they include all CDs on which Hayley has a song or two(compilations) it's a different ballgame... Decca's publicists make me chuckle sometimes but full marks to them for trying, I love it!

Certainly Dave: "The appointement [as UNICEF Ambassador] coincided with the release of her first international album Pure, which, having gone on to sell over two million copies worldwide, has broken all sorts of previous sales records around the world."

Hi Dave,
I would just like to add that, on Tuesday evening, Giselle told us that she had typed up the sheet from text given to her by Steve Abbott. I have a very strong feeling, therefore, that the worldwide figures are pretty accurate.
Keith.

Thanks for the update Roger and Keith! I've never doubted the "sales" figures given out by Decca and by Steve, I am sure they are and always have been correct but they probably mean "sold by Decca to shops", which is always a lot higher than actual retail sales. It's great news that over 2 million have now been sold (presumably to shops) worldwide, as it means Pure must be close to going Gold in the US (500K shipped to shops) and Triple Platinum in the UK (900K shipped), but neither of these has yet been claimed. Even when they do, retail sales will take a while to catch up but Christmas will help quite a lot! I'll do a sales update in the other thread when I can get hold of some more figures but at present it looks like retail sales for Pure are somewhere around 1.5 million worldwide (700K UK) and shipments to shops 2 million+ worldwide (800K to 900K, UK). I am hoping for the announcement of Triple Platinum in the UK sometime in the next month, and possibly a Gold in the US and Germany, which would tend to confirm my estimates - fingers crossed Cheers, Dave
