Hello Keith! I expect this board is going to be a bit busy for the next few days, but I've got a couple of queries and/or niggles with the new software. Firstly, I find that some posts display at the correct width, while others are now too wide. This means that I have to scroll from left to right to see the member's details and read the message, which is a drag in more ways than one, especially when looking at the 10 most recent posts! Secondly, what is this Karma, Exalt and Smite function for? I can't find anything about it on the Help board, but last night Emmett sent me a PM asking me about it, which I couldn't reply to except by saying "I don't know!" Then I noticed my Karma had dropped from 0 to -1, because I think he clicked on Smite! This morning, as an experiment, I clicked Exalt on a post of Roger's, and his Karma rose from zero to 1, but now I can't click Smite to bring it back to zero! I fail to see the value of this function, as it seems to introduce an element of hostility which is not in the spirit of the Forum, and I won't be using it again. If other members feel the same, could this function be removed or disabled, please? If I have any more queries, I'll post it here so others can see the reply. Best Wishes, Richard

Best Wishes, Richard I agree with Richard on this and would add that, when my Karma was raised, I felt no better for it but thanks for trying! Richard, as your Karma appeared as -1, I have just exalted you back to zero! All the best, Roger

Don't worry about the Karma thing. It's gone. I've switched it off.
Cheers, Keith.

Hello again Keith! (1) Thank you for switching off the Karma, I feel much calmer now! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif(2) This new software hasn't done anything to improve my jokes! (3) To be serious for a moment, the width problem has almost gone now, but it is still there in the Latest Chart News thread on the News Discussions board. (4) One other slight niggle. When looking at the 10 most recent posts, it doesn't tell you which board each post is on, only the topic. Apart from that, the new software seems to be performing well! Bye for now, Richard

The reason the Latest Chart News thread is still too wide is that it uses a table to display the columns. There are four code statements for each line of text in a table, two of them repeated for each column along the line. The two most important are (TR)and (/TR). These tell the software to start a new row and to end a row.
Until it sees (/TR) the software will not accept a new row. Until it sees (TR) it will not start a new row. Therefore, it continues on the same row. When the gradient bar for staff members was showing correctly, the left hand side was the proper width. Now that it is showing the hosted image url instead, it means that side is far too wide, shifting the main body of the message to the right and, as a result, making it too wide for the screen.
The very earliest that I am likely to get a response to my request for assistance would be this evening as California, where ProBoards is hosted, is eight hours behind the UK.
Now, when any software is upgraded, there is always a testing period to find any bugs and fix them. However, with something as multi-functional as a forum, the only real test is to actually put it into use and for people to start using it.
There are quite a few little things being found and these will take time to sort out. Some of the things being found will be corrected by adding "patches" to the software in a rolling progression. So, whilst I may get an answer, it could still take time to get it sorted.
To anyone else reading this. I apologise for this problem, especially if it is annoying for you. It is in hand and will be corrected as quickly as possible.
Cheers, Keith.

Actually, I am just wondering if the error might be in the <br/> tag. My guess is they want a <br> tag there and that the <br/> tag isn't recognised as proper HTML code. The result is that the next HTML tag, the <img src= ....> tag, isn't recognised either, and consequently the entire lot is show as plain text, instead of starting on a new line (the function of <br>) and displaying the requested image (the function of <img src= ...>)

Hi Gerrit,
Actually, the forum software prefers <br/> to <br>, although the latter does mostly work, there are occasions when it is ineffective.
The problem actually is that, instead of straight html code, the new software requires UBBC code for the customisation of board images. However, because access to the three staff levels images has not been included in the new software, I can't get in to change them. Hence having to wait for ProBoards to come back with a solution.
Cheers, Keith

Hello again Keith, I've found another minor oddity! If I'm logged in to the Forum and then log out again instead of leaving the system to time out, the Home page continues to show me as logged in, and I still see the Logout button at the top. I have to click on one of the boards to get the Login button back if I want to log in again. Doesn't seem quite right to me, but it's not a big problem. Edit:- I think this may be an intermittent problem, because I just logged out without any difficulty! Bye for now, Richard
