The Management Team have recently been reviewing the Other Music board with the view of carrying out something of a tidying up exercise. As part of that plan, the sub-board for Becky Taylor has now been archived. Although it no longer appears on the Other Music Index Page, it is still available to view HERE. Please note that posting to that sub-board has now been disabled. If anyone wishes to discuss Becky's career, they may do so in this thread. Should there be significant and sustained interest, the original sub-board will be fully restored. Roger

So what ever happened to Becky? She was so full of voice, so full of promise. It's hard to believe a singer so remarkable isn't out there touring up a storm and wowing audiences worldwide like Hayley does. Come back, Becky!

Becky's career (or lack thereof rather) serves as a cautionary tale to all of us. Not even a combination of superior talent and reasonably good looks are enough to guarantee success in this business. Please be advised that I am one of the people trying to keep close tags on Becky. Rigth now, the most up-to-date information currently available is at groups.msn.com/BeckyTaylorFansInternational , of which I am (with thanks to Natasha Poholka) a manager. I am keeping tabs on Becky - but then again, I am also reliant on official sources for info ... Cheers Gerrit

I miss Becky. I loved her latest album very much - and I met her when she performed at the Royal Albert Hall. I don't understand why she hasn't done better. What has she been up to? I have read your post Gerrit, but it was in July! Not to mention there are not any posts from 2008 on it.

Hey guys, Great news! I have an update on Becky. Becky has a manager and is back in London soon to work on something new. She's been quiet because she's been finishing off her education. Becky has also sent me some beautiful photos (they are seriously lacking on the net). I didn't know which one to choose! I'm going to give you small versions in case she doesn't want them out and about yet.

Her musical choices were not safe at all - her album is quite different from the others. She didn't get anywhere because EMI didn't pump any money or promotion into her. It didn't help that Becky was set for the big time in America with much exposure, with an album launch on... September 11, 2001. Not the best of timing for Becky... Hi Nicola and all, When I made that statement I I was thinking of being "safe" in a different context than you do. I meant it was vocally safe in the sense that it wasn't particularly challenging for Becky to sing - with of course the notable exception of Once Upon A December. I joked on the Jackie thread about her final flourish on the National Anthem, but this is exactly what people in America (in my opinion) notice in a singer. When Jackie did that she revealed a vocal range of at least two and half octaves, with considerable power on both ends. Very few singers of any age can do that, so when it is done live by a nine year old, it produces that "Gosh wow" effect that Steve mentioned in his response on the other thread. I dint particularly care for the change in Jackie's style for AGT in the sense that some of her earlier performances were technically better, and certainly "safer" in the sense that they didn't risk damaging her voice. But there is no question in my mind that -given her continued ability to sing like that without a bigger blow out than the end of her last performance- she and her handlers are improving their chances of placing high or maybe even winning that show. No single reason can cause a collapse of this magnitude. Becky's release time - her lack of support certainly hurt later (but Charlotte got most of hers after she started to hit in America). Steve is also right that she followed too close to Charlotte. She had to be perceived to be better or at least as good - and no song on A Dream Come True matched the emotive power of Churchs' The Lords Prayer, which is (or was until very recently) still playing on one radio station in St Louis once a week or so in the morning. The bottom line is that the song selection on A Dream Come True was not tailored well for the people in the US who were most likely to buy it simply because most of the songs did not require exemplary skill to sing.
