I just mentioned them in a different thread, and thought it was about time that they were introduced.
They are a gregorian choir based in Germany (and are immensely popular there, frequently going on tours and reaching top of the album charts). They basically sing in a gregorian chant way, but it is applied to classic pop or rock songs. The result can be both very chill-out and very exciting. An album typically consists of 10 pop/rock covers and 2 or 3 original songs written by Amelia Brightman and someone else (yes, make the Brightman connection - how do you think I heard of them?!). About 2-4 songs will have brief solo female vocals either provided by Sarah (rare, her stage name for this band is 'Hepsibah'), or her sister, Amelia (under the stage name Violet, they have these stagenames with the hope that people don't make the connection with Sarah, der). Amelia's singing style is very different to Sarah's (not at all operatic) so I hope you won't judge the band on that.
I have put down a list of some of the songs they have covered from the top of my head. I may have got some of the artists wrong... forgive me if I have! Anyway, if you like the tracklisting it may be worth checking out. You can check out a teaser for their latest album here: www.myspace.com/gregorianmasterofchant
And you can go their official website (which is in German, but this link will take you to the English version:
