Hello everybody! This morning I paid a visit to St. Pancras International railway station, and enjoyed an excellent free concert given by the strings section of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Tim Redmond. The concert began with Benjamin Britten's Simple Symphony, and continued with Sir Edward Elgar's Serenade for Strings. Unfortunately there was a round of applause in the middle of the second movement when the first Eurostar departed for Paris at 11:00am, loaded with VIPs. Happily the crowd were more interested in the music than the trains from then on, and the orchestra completed their first set with Percy Grainger's Shepherds Hey. After an interval, the orchestra played Holst's St. Paul's Suite, followed by Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. They then took another short break before playing Peter Warlock's Capriol. The concert ended with the March from Gilbert Vinter's Entertainments, which was a piece I hadn't heard before. St. Pancras International is a very impressive railway station with its mixture of ancient and modern, but it is not an ideal concert venue. There were numerous announcements over the PA, although the RPO carried on playing regardless and gave a wonderful performance that I thoroughly enjoyed. Best Wishes, Richard

Hi Richard,
I am glad that you enjoyed the concert.
Did you and everybody else see or hear about the concert last week at the official opening of St Pancras. Katherine Jenkins, Lemar, an Orchestra and a Choir playing and singing an operatic pop(ish) medley version of the Beatles 'Ticket To Ride' and 'Hello Goodbye'. That was certainly interesting.
As trains from Stoke on Trent arrive in Euston, and I usually stay in Kings Cross, I walk past St Pancras every time I visit London. I think that the front of the building which I believe used to be a hotel is one of the most stunningly beautiful buildings in London. A fine example of Victorian Architecture.

Hello Dazza! I heard about the concert with Katherine Jenkins, but I didn't attend. St. Pancras International is definitely the finest railway station in London, and probably the best in the country now, so I recommend everybody to take a look if you're in town. There's still some building work going on outside, but the interior is magnificent. Best Wishes, Richard

Hi Richard. If you are interesting in seeing the performance at the opening ceremony you should be able to see it here - www.katherine-jenkins-international.com/clips/O07a/stpancraswebcast061107.wmv (from Katherine Jenkins International) Unfortunatly I wont have the time to look around St Pancras when I am down London for the All Angels concert, but I am very much looking forward to having a look around. Hi Richard,
I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed the concert. I will definitely follow your advice and visit St Pancras someday. It is now welcoming the Eurostar so there's no doubt that this day will come very soon!
Love, Stephany
