Hi All,
Is there anyone who likes the Swiss Alps Yodeling?
Last weekend, there was the Last Night Of The Proms. At the same time, on German TV there was a broadcast featuring German/Swiss/Austrian traditional song.
Whereas I don't like that type of song as a rule, they did come up with a sensational act this time, "Oesch's die Dritten". It involves a father and his son and daughter. The daughter is interviewed by Hansi Hinterseer, a German Schlager singer who is presenting the programme. She is asked where the name "Oesch's die Dritten" comes from. She explains that Oesch is the family name, and that she and her brother are the third (Dritte) generation performers, after their grandfather (first generation) and their father (second generation, and actually present in the act). Hansi Hinterseer is even a bit naughty when he asks the young lady if there's any chance of "Oesch's die Vierten" (the fourth generation) becoming reality soon .... The young lady (whose name is never mentioned) tells him that this will be her secret.
And then the yodeling starts. And it is sensational. I have heard some yodeling in my time, but what the third generation Oesch lady performs is simply breathtaking. Even if you have never listened to yodeling before, you should not miss this!
At the end Hansi Hinterseer remarks that surely, with a performance from Oesch's die Dritten like that, Oesch's die Vierten can only get better ....
Still, for all of you who like yodeling, click this link (it is amazing indeed - and please don't be distracted too much by the less than perfect recording quality):

PS The song is called the "Cuckoo Yodel". I suppose you will understand why when you listen to it.
