Jillian.... HOW WAS YOUR FIRST JOSH CONCERT?!
So, it was that exciting, huh? Ha ha ha I'm here! Yes, Josh was in fine voice! It is quite amazing how much his voice has grown over the years. He literally didn't miss a beat. Anthem was incredible and my favourite song of the night. I really enjoyed the concert. But Josh sang only from his most recent album 'Stages' and I did miss hearing some of his other songs. In a funny way, although a lot of show tunes are 'big' songs, at times it was like Josh's voice was actually being contained by these songs, like he needed something even more for his voice to truly break free.

Anthem is probably my favorite, too, one I will definitely be looking forward to. As for me, I'm sometimes relieved to hear him sing songs like this, which force him to sing perfectly. His more recent songs tend to put him in falsetto too much, or other higher notes that are not necessarily his best range. I hated Love Only Knows, I'm sorry to say. And even Brave, a song I enjoy very much, sounds a little bit strained to me. Peter Hollens does an outstanding cover of it, and his voice sounds much more comfortable singing in that range than Josh does. Josh does well with falsetto, but lately he's been using it a bit too much in his songs. However, he did a much better job of not over-doing the falsetto on All That Echoes. But a singer with a perfect voice like Josh just has to sing songs like this. It's what helps draw fans and sell lots of albums. Did you know that Noel was the best-selling album of 2007, and the album didn't even come out until November?? I think Stages sold really well, too. So, you see, it's kind of a requirement for singers with voices like Josh to make albums with classic favorites like this and Christmas songs (at least in the US). Which is another reason Winter Magic from Hayley was a bit of a disappointment. She didn't sing enough classics, and she didn't sing in the voice people expected to hear. She would have been better off doing a Christmas album very soon after Pure, vocally. And I mean a full album, not bonus tracks on a special edition of Pure. And it would have sold very well in the US, her still being a new and exciting artist, and the fact that Christmas albums do well here. But that's a discussion for another thread. Most of the songs on All that Echoes do showcase the perfection of Josh's voice, especially Hollow Talk, Falling Slowly, and I Believe when I Fall in Love. I seriously wish he'd sing more songs like Hollow Talk. Have you ever heard his version of My December? That's another song in that style that suits him perfectly! He could seriously switch to that genre and it would be amazing. Of course, I'm always the one who loves variety, so I wouldn't want him to switch to only one style. Just do more of that style, that's all.

First listen of Josh Groban's song "Dust and Ashes" from The Great Comet (not to be confused with our great comet i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif ) coming up in the fall: greatcometbroadway.com/#dust-and-ashesIt's great, and I hope he sings it on tour! I've never heard Josh sound angry in a song before. LOL I'm ready to "wake up", too, just saying. You have to listen to the whole song to get that part.

Okay, update time! The concert was AMAZING, a truly great experience. First off, the venue: Since it was an outdoor venue, things were a little bit steamy and damp due to some rain just before the concert. However, it was incredible watching the clouds turn from dark shades of grey to warm pastel hues of orange and red as Josh sang his first couple songs. Also, the venue let people bring in coolers and candles! Who doesn't love a little fresh fried chicken? Also, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Alicia! As we discussed, it certainly is nice to be able to see the person behind the avatar. Josh and Sarah McLachlan were both in fine voice. Josh didn't sing his new song from The Great Comet, but he did do a new song with Sarah that he said might be on the next album. It's called "Run," originally by Snow Patrol; I personally liked their version much better than the original. They, in addition, sang "Angel," which was absolutely beautiful. I also noticed that Josh did quite a few more songs from his first album; the only songs that were not either from his eponymous album or Stages were "February Song," and the inevitable "You Raise Me Up." However, it was a refreshing mix of new and old. Overall, as I said, and incredible night. I'm so sorry I didn't get to say goodbye or get my picture with you Alicia! Maybe at some other concert in the future -Taylor

Thanks for sharing your first Josh concert experience with us! And I totally agree, it's wonderful to meet other Hayley (and other artists) fans. It was so great to be able to discuss Hayley with other people, in person, mind you, and not feel weird about it. LOL Besides the fact that I got to see Hayley, I felt like Madison was probably my only chance to ever meet anyone from HWI. However, we did have the pleasure of meeting the mother and daughter from Oregon (right?) who apparently do visit the forum... or, at least the daughter does, and she knew who "Libby" was. So, I would be thrilled to meet up with them again if Hayley comes to our side of the country in the future. There was a member of the official forum a long time ago from CA, klassical something or other, but she hasn't posted in ages.

Maybe at some other concert in the future -Taylor No worries! I thought shoot when you and your friend left, and I realized we didn't take a picture. Maybe some other time. ~~~~~ Sorry for the late post, but I had to work on Monday. I'm here to report that getting 3-4 hours of sleep is not enough to function the next day! LOL But the show was wonderful as the last two times I have seen him! I have to look at my pictures tonight, and I will try to post some for ya if they are any good. Josh was funny as usual and he nailed the songs. I especially liked "Over the Rainbow", "Children Will Listen/Nobody is Going to Harm You" Medley, and the French tune off of Stages. I drafted away listening to these wonderful songs during the show. "To Where You Are" is also on this list, and while he sang it, I was thinking of my grandmother who passed away 5 years ago in August. I also have to say, I was just as excited to see Sarah McLachlan as I was to see Josh. This was my first time seeing Sarah perform live and she didn't disappoint. In fact, I have been listening to Sarah since I was a little girl, and then her "glory" days in the late 90's was when I was tween. When I said the same sentiment to Taylor before the show, I think I shocked him! lol Not my intention by the way, Taylor! It was interesting in a good way to hear her hits in an acoustic setting instead of the fully produced arrangements I have been listening to for years. It was just Sarah and a piano or guitar. I was glad she sang "Possession", "I Will Remember You", "Building a Mystery", and "Ice Cream". Great concert!!

He was shocked to find out how "old" you are, or what? LOL Well, if I remember correctly, you're Hayley's age, and if that's true, then Hayley's not old, so you're not either. LOL I actually only know one of those songs you mention.

I enjoyed Josh's concert on Tuesday night very much. Sarah was not there. I can't say that I was all that sorry. We were there for Josh, and nothing more. My sister was relieved not to be put through the song Angel. Josh did sing the song Run by Snow Patrol, which I really enjoyed. I hope it really is on the next album. I love him singing that style. My December, Hollow Talk, and Run really suit his voice. Or vice versa. He also sang the new song, Dust and Ashes! I was very disappointed he didn't sing You'll Never Walk Alone, and also somewhat disappointed that he didn't sing Anthem. I realized in advance that he probably wouldn't sing that, but I held out a tiny bit of hope for it. I think I'll watch my Stages Live DVD again so I'll be able to enjoy a full Stages concert. I'm very glad he sang Bring Him Home, though. Foy Vance was the opening act. He was good, but because of Sarah's absence, he went on a little longer than I would have preferred, and his rough voice got old after a while. I did occasionally find myself wanting to move to the beat of his music, though. I liked the outdoor venue, Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery, as far as the scenery goes. However, the fact that I paid over $300 (for 2 tickets), and yet, I got my nice shoes covered in dust, and the fact that the only restrooms were port-a-potties was not appreciated. I really hope none of my favorite artists go there anymore. Sarah Brightman has been there before (years ago), and in 2014 she was scheduled to be at another outdoor venue, but I really hope she goes somewhere indoors when she comes.

Josh has a new Christmas single available for download on all the available sites (the link is to Itunes, which many people have), Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. I listened to a long clip on Google Play and loved it, and then was disappointed when it stopped. itunes.apple.com/us/album/id1166205717?app=itunesJosh will also be performing at the Rockefeller Center concert on November 30th, aired on NBC, I think. I would guess he sings his new single.

Yes, I got that e-mail. But I don't think I have any use for that! My mom still has a record player on her ancient stereo, but it's not completely unfaulty. Anyway, I'll just download it from Amazon. It irritates me that his website didn't have anything about the video, only a link to the Itunes album, which is what I provided. The only way I found out to begin with was on my Facebook news feed, which just had the links to listen to clips (which is how I found the Google Play clip).

Here's the full song, and some TV appearances coming up next week! He and Hayley will be in NY at the same time! Well, he does live there now, if he's not on tour.
