UCJ has signed yet another Welsh soprano for a 5-record album deal. She is 29-year old Elin Manahan Thomas, who was born in Swansea. About a year ago, she appeared on Welsh television channel S4C - and got an invitation from UCJ to perform in London for bosses of the record label. A day later she was offered a contract, and her first album "Eternal Light" will be released on June 25. This week, there will be a showcase on the album in London - so we are bound to hear more about her soon. Comparisons are already made with Katherine Jenkins. It would appear though that Elin may not fit the traditional crossover mould, as she specialises in Baroque - and her album will be released under the classical label Heliodor. Definitely someone to keep in mind - one of the UCJ bosses said they were "absolutely knocked out" by Elin's voice. The track-listing for her album has 'Bist Du Bei Mir' on it! I love that song.
She appears on a few other albums - John Rutter:Requiem, for one.

Ah, a good TRUE classical soprano from Wales. Don't get me wrong, crossover is fun, but it's important to keep the original classical stuff going too. And she's 29 and VERY married, so there won't be any scandals.

I have seen her video for '....Light Divine' on ClassicFm TV quite a few times now (its the only way to hear the whole of the song at the moment) and I like her voice a lot. Not everyone finds Baroque fascinating, hopefully she will change peoples minds.

This post has been moved from a duplicate thread. If you like piercingly high soprano voices, check out Elin Manahan Thomas. She's quite amazing.
I'm not much of a fan of super-high pitched singing, but Elin's got an exceptionally clear tone and incredible technique. I actually find her a delight.

Some of you may remember several recent mentions to the Welsh soprano Elin Manahan Thomas. To be honest, I am pretty much amazed by her voice, and I will definately be buying her album Eternal Light (as I love the tracklist choice, so many beautiful Baroque pieces). Well, looking around, I found on youtube a TV appearance of her and Jonathan Ansell singing the famous duet Libiamo ne'lieti calici from Verdi's La Traivatta. I prefer Elin's Baroque style, but they are both amazing on this performance. www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9oNBcwr8b0Michal

As I said I ended up getting the album as a present today and listening to it with great delight! I love baroque music!

A highlight: the last track of the song, a duet with the countertenor Robin Blaze... Incredible, just incredible!
