Can we please keep this thread on topic - Andre Rieu. If necessary we can start a new Classical Brits 2010 thread to discuss performing artists etc..
Cheers Martin

I think I'm correct in saying that Forever Vienna is now the highest placed classical album in the UK since "Titanic" was no. 1 in 1998, and before that The Three Tenors in Concert 1994. I'm delighted that he's doing so well. Dave It is very very close among the top 4 but there is now a good chance that he will do even better this week, he is today no. 1 in the 3rd midweek (interim) album chart (4 days sales) - so if anyone in the UK is thinking of buying this album, buy it this week. This is probably the best chance that he (or any classical album) will have of getting a no. 1 in this decade (there have been none so far this Century). Confirmation of what would be an amazing achievement comes from the BBC: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8503117.stmCome on everybody, push! Dave

Just wrote this on my Facebook status, but I'm hoping here someone can answer my question! "Have I missed something big? Why is a classical violinist (André Rieu) #2 in the UK pop album charts? Not saying that he doesn't deserve it, or that it's no good, just, a violinist getting to #2 in the charts is unheard of. Was he featured on a reality show, or something? What was his promotion? HOW DID HE DO IT!?" This album with a DVD is being advertised repeatedly on prime time TV here in Ireland..I suppose people will buy whatever is shoved in their faces often enough, especially if they are told it is a "must have" or an "essential" collection.. Nigel Kennedy and Yehudi Menuhin also did quite well out of their versions of the Four Seasons in their own time. I prefer the Menuhin version.

That's very good news about Andre's 'Forever Vienna' album! Andre and his orchestra are performing in Germany for most of the month, I hope to attend the concert in Wilkes-Barre...on June 21, I believe is the date. I had such a good time at last year's show! I pity the couple who sat behind me...I was waving my scarf, standing, and taking photos i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

There is also sad news about Andre Rieu, Latest news on dutch tv, his company lost 10 milion euro's.... the costs of last years touring, where much higher than the profits. They expect some extra income of this years cd and dvd sales, and a new tour.

Hello Sing! Hopefully there'll be some samples available tomorrow when the album is released. Here's the cover: Richard

Since it doesn't say "ft. Hayley Westenra" as it does in the tracklisting for the album it was originally on, I would guess that it is not the one with Hayley. But, at least if someone liked the song, they might find the version with Hayley on youtube or something.

Hello Libby! I've found the download album with samples here: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01D5KD3NCHayley isn't in the short clip of 'Dreaming Of New Zealand', but that doesn't really prove anything. Richard

Some very sad news from Andre Rieu and his orchestra. One of the members of the orchestra (Ruud Merx a trombonist) had a heart attack in Nottingham (I think) last week and has been in a critical condition. It sounds as though he has since died. www.facebook.com/andrerieu/?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINEI've seen a lot of his shows on DVD and in the cinema, I think he was a very good musician and very happy and funny on stage. He will be missed. R.I.P.
