Hello everyone, I hope and trust that you are all well. Last night, we attended an Andre Rieu concert in Atlantic City, New Jersey. New Jersey is on the eastern coast of the US, about 1/3 of the the way down. Atlantic City is a wonderful, seaside resort town, now known for its casinos. Rieu played at "Boardwalk Hall", which was the original convention center. It's a magnificent old structure, right on the Boardwalk, sandwiched among the casinos. The Johann Strauss Orchestra, tenors and sopranos did not disappoint. It was a magnificent performance. Below are some pictures and descriptions of the concert. I had to use my knee as a tripod and as a result, most of the shots are not very clear. But they do provide an indication of what a wonderful event it was. In addition to the tremendous talent, there was also an abundance of humor throughout the concert. If you get the opportunity to see the orchestra live, you should not miss it. I will post more pictures within the next few days. Below - Boardwalk Hall - portion, inside. Much too large to capture in one frame....even with a wide-angle lens. Our seats were located at the point where the orchestra assembled to march into the arena. It was just wonderful to see Andre, the musicians and singers up close. They freely interacted with the audience. The Maestro is at bottom, slightly left of center. The Maestro: Picture taken as the orchestra members began to march into the arena. They clearly were having a lot of fun interacting with the audience. "Thank you everyone! It is great to be in Atlantic City"! Andre's own "Three Tenors".....along with my very unsteady knee.... The changing background colors and patterns added to the beauty of the concert: Earlier in this thread, Joyce mentioned MIRUSIA Louwerse. From Australia, she was one of the sopranos who performed. WHAT AN AMAZING VOICE! Mirusia, talented and beautiful. More wonderful background settings: Very pretty, don't you think? More pictures later. Some of these WILL BE VERY FUNNY! What a sense of humor this group has! Regards to all, Gene

Here are more pictures of the Andre Rieu concert in Atlantic City. All of the changing backdrops were quite tasteful and beautiful. Below - I believe that this backdrop was used when Mirusia performed "Ave Maria". The starred sky backdrop was used a number of times during the concert. "Harry, the man wants a blue suit! Turn the blue light on"! Gorgeous patterns and colors to go along with the amazing talent of the performers. An amazing array of colors! This picture shows the Maestro with his three tenors and three sopranos. Rieu kept repeating to the audience, "All I could think about for weeks was performing in Atlantic City"! Not a serious comment and the more he repeated it, the more the audience laughed! More colorful shots to follow, including what some of the zany orchestra members did to celebrate the finale. Also some very interesting signs that were displayed by the very energetic and enthusiastic audience. Regards, Gene.

Thanks again Joe, Graham, Grant and Joyce. Joyce, you have every right to feel proud. Andre Rieu is an amazing asset. Here are a few more pictures: I've seen this soprano on the local PBS telecasts as part of the ensemble. She, as well as the other two sopranos, has an amazing voice. However, she did not do any solos that night. I was hoping that she would. The Maestro spoke well and used a good deal of humor throughout the performance. Every note that his violin sang was very pure. Near the end of the performance, hundreds of balloons were released. People were dancing everywhere to the waltzes. [/img]http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w164/GeneCherryHill/CIMG0264b.jpg Balloons were being popped everywhere! The tenors and sopranos, near the end of the concert.....a champagne toast! The excellent background singers, with their champagne! One of the orchestra members....he took no quarter and did not use a glass! A well-deserved toast to himself...and he didn't share!!! I believe that this was just prior to the encores....which were wonderful! I would certainly vote for him! One of the encore performances. They played and sang American patriotic songs....very moving and much applause. Now that's what I call a HUGE flashbulb! Note the four backup singers on the upper right...they are getting their pom-poms ready.....and...... ....UP GO THE POM-POMS!!! Pretty in blue.... A stunning backdrop for a stunning orchestra.... Vibrant, glowing, appealing....amazing colors.... I would see them again in a heartbeat! Cheers to all, Gene
