Help me out here. I'm looking to have a big list as possible of classical crossover artists (the definition is vague, but I think you get the drift of what remotely fits the bill). I'm looking for a classical artist that fuses their music with pop, or vice versa. If you are to put anyone forward, they have to have released a CD from a record label. I know this site has a lot of artists that have self made CDs and have not quite released their stuff to the wide public yet, but if I started listing all of them the list would go on forever. So, artists that have released a CD: This is the list I have compiled so far, have I missed anyone out that you know of? Sarah Brightman Katherine Jenkins Hayley Westenra Josh Groban Il Divo Vanessa-Mae Russell Watson Andrea Bocelli Bryn Terfel Amici Forever All Angels Alfio Alfie Boe Alex Prior Aled Jones Charlotte Church G4 Libera Gregorian Era Mario Frangoulis Nick Garrett Nicky Spence OperaBabes Sissel The Ten Tenors Vittorio Grigolo Keedie Becky Jane Taylor Amy Nuttall Myleene Klass Emma Shapplin Izzy Summer Cantamus Enya Petra Berger Erna Hemming Bond Maksim Elec Cookie Maksim Mrvica Marcomé Emilie Autumn Natasha Marsh Andrea Ross Yulia Townsend Celtic Women Triniti Tarja Turunen Angel Voices Yulia ChoirBoys Angelis Sweetbox Celtic Woman Wild Aselin Debison Holly Holyoake Nicola Benedetti Anne Buckley Sandra Schwarzhaupt Sasha Lazard Mary Fahl Lauren Waterworth Anuna Medieval Babes (how do I spell that)? Sophie Solomon Nobou Uematsu Catrin Finch (R) The Planet (R) Lara St John (R) Julia Thornton (R) The Boston Pops Orchestra (R)

Hi Nicola,
That is already a mightily impressive list. I'm sure I could not have named anywhere near as many. I can add a few though, all of them instrumental:
Catrin Finch (harp) Myleene Klass (piano) The Planets (octet) Lara St John (violin) Julia Thornton (harp)
Are you compiling this list for any particular reason?
Roger

...Then, of course, there is a very obvious one: The Boston Pops Orchestra! Roger

Thanks Roger, I already had Myleene, but the others slipped my mind. I'm not that good with the instrumentalists actually. I have a few of them, but that's where my knowledge is lacking. Thanks, most of the artists come from my CD collection, this site, and classicalx.com, but most of them are in my collection! I think I said a while ago that I lead a group on www.last.fm (http://www.last.fm/group/Classical+Crossover). Well, the point of the group is to inform other listeners of other artists that are similar, so I started with a list on the artist connections. But my initial list has grown, and I thought that it may be interesting to have a huge list of any crossover artist there is. I don't know why. Just thought it would be interesting! Of course I'll put them all up on the group artist connections, but it's more for my own sad satisfaction!

Hi Nicola, Oh yeah, so you did have Myleene. Oh well, you got her twice now. She can play a duet! I suppose you could include many of the big names from classical (Pavarotti, Carreras, Domingo, etc) as they have all performed and/or recorded material which is not from the classical repertoire. Oh, and to make this thread a little more interesting for everyone else (if you're bothered), say which artists are in your collection! Here are mine:
Sarah Brightman Katherine Jenkins Hayley Westenra Josh Groban Il Divo Vanessa-Mae Russell Watson Andrea Bocelli Amici Forever All Angels Aled Jones Charlotte Church G4 Libera Gregorian Era Mario Frangoulis OperaBabes Sissel Vittorio Grigolo Keedie Becky Jane Taylor Amy Nuttall Myleene Klass Emma Shapplin Izzy Summer Cantamus Enya Celtic Women Triniti Tarja Turunen Angel Voices ChoirBoys Angelis Sweetbox Celtic Woman Nicola Benedetti Anne Buckley Sandra Schwarzhaupt Sasha Lazard Mary Fahl Lauren Waterworth Anuna Mediæval Bæbes Sophie Solomon Nobou Uematsu
EDIT: You are right Roger. I know each of them have done pop albums, or have collaborated with pop/crossover singers. I'm a bit weary of putting them in though, as they are mainly real opera stars. Hmm... I'm not sure! What do you think?

You will never get complete agreement on that point. The three tenors are, of course, principally known as classical singers but there is no denying they have performed other material. Strictly speaking they therefore qualify for inclusion in your list. But that means you can also include virtually every classical singer performing today. Renee Fleming, Kiri te Kanawa, Lesley Garrett.... The list is endless. No time now to list those in my collection. Maybe I'll come back to it but it looks as though we have many the same so we must have good taste! Roger

Hi Nicola, That is one impressive list, especially as i haven't even heard of some of them! But it is a difficult area to classify and i might dispute a few of the artists in your list I also know a few more who are not in your list! Do you think it would be easier and clearer to make it a list of "Artists who have Released a Classical Crossover Album"? I for one would then find it much easier to add my own comments. That's just a thought... but it's your thread, so by all means play it how you like! Cheers, Dave

This is the list I have compiled so far, have I missed anyone out that you know of? I would add Filippa Giordano and Giorgia Fumanti to the list. I also think Maev's significant body of work stands apart from Celtic Woman enough to grant her an individual mention.

Hello Nicola! Roger has mentioned Lesley Garrett, and you should definitely add her to your list. I've listened to excerpts from her new album of standards 'When I Fall In Love', and her voice sounds very different from when she sings opera. On several of the tracks she reminds me of Barbra Streisand. You must also add Fiona Pears. She plays classical violin and jazz fiddle with equal aplomb! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest Wishes, Richard
