After some discussion, we have decided to change the sort order of the 20 sub-boards in "Other Music".
The sub-boards were sorted in alphabetical order, which meant that lucky Aled Jones was always at the top and poor Zoë was always at the bottom... initially off the screen!
Therefore, experimentally, the sort order has now been changed so that it works like threads i.e. the sub-board with the most recent post will appear at the top of the index page. The sub-board with the oldest 'most recent' post will be (normally) at the bottom.
This announcement thread has not been locked so that members may report bugs and if they wish, post their reaction to this change.
Cheers, Dave

Hello Dave! First the bad news. I've just made a post on the 'Sophie Westenra' sub-board, and the automatic resorting isn't working. Now the very bad news. All the sub-boards on the 'Albums', 'Singles' and 'Off-Topic Discussion' boards have disappeared! Richard

It is possible that the sorting does not occur until you open your browser, or enter the forum, in which case it might not occur immediately when a new post is made. It's not my code so I'll have to investigate when the other bug has been sorted out. The disappearing sub-boards problem was related to the change in the sub-boards sort order. I know what the problem is but it will take a little while to fix it so I have suspended the change to the sub-boards sort order until then. In the meantime, the other sub-boards are back, watch this space! Thanks for the testing and feedback! Cheers, Dave

Cheers, Dave OK, I've corrected the problems (I think) and all main boards with sub-boards should now be listing their sub-boards in order of the date/time of the last post. The disappearing sub-boards no longer seem to disappear. I just posted a test thread/message in The Cottars sub-board (currently 5th in order) and it shot to the top of the sub-boards list. I've now deleted the test thread and it's gone back to its correct place - in my browser anyway. Fingers crossed this time... but please report any further bugs, problems or annoyances! Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave,
The sort seems to go back and forth from alphabetical back to date. After I posted to The Cottars board the order was by date. I then posted to Tashi and Crystal's...it went back to alphabetical.

Thanks Joe, that's weird. I see it sometimes goes wrong when I post a test message to a sub board then delete it - and I have to manually fix it. But I've never had a case of it going back alphabetical. Let's watch it for a day or so to see what happens and what others report. If it's too buggy, we'll stop using it, which would be a pity but as the French say "C'est la vie"... Cheers, Dave

Hello everybody! The automatic sorting hasn't been working correctly for me, so I tried something this morning. I changed the "Month Format" in my profile from day/month (British format) to month/day (American format), and now it seems to work OK. Best Wishes from London, Richard
