Hi all, Nicci and Becki Rice are two 16-year old identical twins from Scotland. They are step grand-daughters of Lewis (whom quite a few of you will know!) With the assistance of Lewis, a profile page for Nicci and Becki has been added to the MSN group Young Classical Performers: groups.msn.com/YoungClassicalPerformers/niccibeckirice.msnwThere are samples of them singing - including two versions of Pie Jesu in duet, and Becki singing Ave Maria solo. They are truly worth a listen! I have listened to a number of tracks now, and I have found their voices to be very moving indeed. Gerrit

Hello Gerrit! I've just listened to the audio clips, and Nicci and Becki have very nice voices. I don't understand the comment about "Pie Jesu" because I definitely prefer the accompanied version. It sounds excellent to me! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest Wishes from London, Richard

I got a bit of feedback about your comments from Lewis, Richard. Hopefully it explains their personal preference for doing this a capella. And singers should perform in a way they are comfortable with!

===============
The preference of the sound engineer is to record the track twice, each singer doing solo on the duet part, then merge them after. This lets him balance the voices. This is standard practice in the industry. However, they lost that essential magic when they tried that. Their first attempt (with backing) just didn't sound the same. The track with backing on the MSN page was recorded as a real duet, both together but we feel it falls apart a bit in places, not showing them at their best.
People have said they find the a capella version ethereal.
When a capella they can go at their own pace and alter the timing for effect.
These recordings are against pre-recorded backing tracks which just hammer on & leave the girls with no control. Singers find this quite restrictive as distinct from having real players who would follow them rather than the other way round.

I have just listened to the songs and they sound beautiful! I defanitely thought their voices sounded better on Pie Jesu a capella, although it sounded great either way! Can't wait to hear more.
