Well this thread has been dormant for well over a year so I thought I'd resurrrect it for any lovers of classical classical music (well operatic ) out there. The most astonishing chart news that i've heard for some time is shown in the following top ten of the German Pop Album chart, which I copied from Billboard today: GERMANY Albums Billboard Issue Date: March 24, 2007This Week (Last Week) Artist/ Title 1 (NEW) HERBERT GRONEMEYER - 12 2 (3) NELLY FURTADO - LOOSE 3 (NEW) A. NETREBKO/R. VILLAZON - DUETS4 (1) TOKIO HOTEL - ZI3ER 483 5 (4) FALCO - HOCH WIE NIE 6 (5) NORAH JONES - NOT TOO LATE 7 (2) MANOWAR - GODS OF WAR 8 (NEW) AIR - POCKET SYMPHONY 9 (NEW) DJ OETZI - STERNSTUNDEN 10 (NEW) ARCADE FIRE - NEON BIBLE This is yet another top 10 pop chart entry with an operatic album for Anna Netrebko and her duetting with the superb Rolando Villazon is certainly paying dividends in Germany. These two together are, it seems, as popular in Germany now as The Three Tenors were anywhere in the World at the height of their fame... and with no massive World Cup exposure. I have to confess to being a bit of a Netrebko fan and having seen and heard both her and Villazon sing live at the Classical BRITS in recent years, this album is certainly on my personal shopping list! Hi Marianne, Glad you like her! My contacts tell me that the CD is released next Monday in the UK, a choice of CD or a CD/DVD set. So now all I have to decide is which to get! Cheers, Dave PS Love the NZ photos you just posted here!

Just received the Deutsche Grammophon e-card about this, there are some nice clips of these two available from here. One of the things I like about them is how they are prepared to help popularise opera with pop-style video clips - though far more meaningful clips than pop records usually are. From the Duets album page Click on Multimedia - then Music Clip ( "O soave fanciulla" from La Bohème) and try the broadband link - played on an external player - full-screen. Unless you're a bit into classical and opera, don't bother but if you are... wow! Dave

Hi Dave & Marianne
I loved Rolando Villazon's performance last year at the Brits. I was also really disappointed to miss the previous year when Anna Netrebko gave her stunning performance of Song to the Moon. Glad I have it recorded though! When I saw the two of them were performing some concerts together I booked tickets for Derby Park in Hamburg on 14th July. It was a bit of a spur of the moment thing but now really looking forward to this event and will buy the Duets Album which I guess will be the songs they will perform during the show. They must be VERY popular in Germany. The tickets were quite expensive and sold very quickly. I will try and get some photos and a report of the concert after the event.

Hello again Marianne and George and everyone, I think their 9 minute promo video is pretty cool too! Yes George, you missed out on a great performance from Anna two years ago, in fact ITV chose to to ignore her best of the two songs she sang - although Song To The Moon was pretty good too, as I recall it. Yes please do tell us all about your trip to Germany! Later that year I tried to book an Opera Anna was doing at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, over 6 months later. But it was already booked up solid!!! As for Rolando Villazon, well they called him the pretender to the throne of the great Domingo when they sang together at last year's Classical BRITS but I reckon he's already taken over the mantle. He is a magnificent opera singer and the thought of him and Anna singing together for 70 minutes sends shivers down my spine. I've just been checking HMV online as nowhere near me will sell the new Duets album and they have the limited edition version with bonus DVD on sale for £8.99 shipped - the same price as the non-DVD version. So I dived in quick and ordered it - before they change their minds and put the price up! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif Looks like the CD is full to the brim (over 70 minutes long) and with a couple of videos on the DVD I reckon that's good value. Anyone wanting to hear proper samples of this should go to www.classicsandjazz.co.uk and search for "Netrebko Duets" - you get at least one minute of each track at very high quality. Cheers, Dave

Oh my goodness! The "Duets" Special Edition CD/DVD set by Netrebko/Villazon arrived in the post this morning and wow, what a bargain! Well done Deutsche Grammophon and wake up, Decca! If you like opera, Netrebko or Villazon, order it today! Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave
I too received my CD + Bonus DVD today from HMV. Thanks for the info you posted regarding the special price. It is everything you have mentioned above. The quality of the CD/DVD is amazing! Could it be the way it is presented that has helped it to enter so high in the German Charts. It would certainly stand out on any display rack in the stores. I haven't had the time to listen to the album yet but a quick play of the DVD has impressed me already. This isn't the usual type of music I would buy but there is something about the pairing of Netrebko and Villazon that draws me to it. I am really looking forward to the live concert now!

Hi George, Yes and I'm really looking forward to hearing from you about it, too! Now, in an effort to turn a few more eyes towards this thread... a scan from my nice shiny new book/CD Anna Netrebko © KASSKARA She can sing as well. What was all that about the Fat Lady? Dave
