Umm... I think that's all of the categories. Tell me if I missed one. My favourite group is strings, and my favourite instrument in that group is violin. Closely followed by harp and cello. My favourite instrumentalists are Lucia Micarelli, Joshua Bell, RoseWynde (free mp3 downloads at Amazon), Yuko Ohigashi, and James Galway. Because I'm a huge fan of instrumentals, please tell me who your favourites are, so I can discover some new musicians! Oksana

I voted for Brass, but I'm biased. I play the French Horn and have done so for 7 years now. I enjoy playing it tremendously, and find music with French Horns in it everywhere! I personally like the 32 London Horn Players and The American Horn Quartet & N.Y. Philharmonic Horns. I also like Piano (I've played piano for 12 years now), and cello. <3 Caite

Hi Oksana,
That is a REALLY tough question. I have to eliminate percussion which is definitely my least favourite. I love the bold and grand sound of brass and the sometimes hauntingly beautiful sound of the woodwind instruments. However, if I really have to chose, I guess I like the strings most of all.
As for favourite instrumentalists, I will have to pass on that except to say that in recent years, I really appreciate Joshua Bell. Ever heard of a pianist (also plays cello) called Alison Hood? I have only ever seen her once (as a guest on a DVD by Phil Coulter) but I kinda like her.
Okay, I am in danger of really stirring it up now but, even though I am from one of the southernmost counties of England, I love the sound of the bagpipe family - highland, lowland, Northumbrian, Uillean.... are there any others?
Some of the lesser known instruments are really worth trying too. Has anyone heard a bowed psaltery or the Chinese mouth organ known as a sheng? WOW!
Roger

Hmm... I wonder how the votes would change if I had included "voice" in the poll options.

Brass, definitely, since I'm a brass man, I played trumpet all through college in the marching band and occasionally concert band. It's the instrument of royalty and fame, as well as the instrument that usually heralds the arrival of the cavalry who save the day when all seems lost. Unfortunately, it doesn't work too well with the solo voice, although Handel composed a few airs with it, notably "Let the Bright Seraphim" which I hope Hayley will be ready for one day.

I really like the woodwind instruments, particularly the tin whistle, the Irish low whistle, and Uillean pipes.

She released her two CDs in Asia, and I think her first one in the UK, but I think she's tremendous and her playing is absolutely gorgeous. Her official site is being updated and hasn't been up in a while. As to my favorite instruments: the violin, the piano, the pan flute, tin whistle, oboe and lots more.

My Favourite has to be string instruments, the Violin is my favourite string instrument and I am starting to learn how to play it.

Hello Oksana and everybody! I've had to think about this one for quite a while, because I enjoy listening to most instruments in all categories, including percussion. Several years ago I saw a group of young Australian musicians in the foyer at the Barbican, and they played well-known classical works entirely on marimbas and timpani. The sound was truly amazing, and I've never seen or heard anything like it since. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifEventually I voted for strings, because I thought of violinist Fiona Pears dancing around the stage in her gypsy skirt. What a lovely sight, what a lovely sound, and what a funny place to have a stage!!! Best Wishes from London, Richard
