Hello Kimberly and Natasha! Cecilia is Italy's top mezzo-soprano, and she has won numerous awards at the Classical Brits and elsewhere, but her singing is too clinically perfect for my taste. In fast arias she pronounces every semi-quaver separately, and she rolls her 'rrr's like a pneumatic drill. I know I'm going to be shot down in flames, but I don't like her at all! Sorry about that! Richard

Hi Kimberly, Admittedly I haven't seen or heard very much of hers, but what I have seen leaves me in full agreement with Richard. Sorry. Roger

Well, If we talk about true classical singers, like Cecilia Bartoli, Renée Fleming, Angela Gheorghiu and Anna Netrebko, I definitely prefer Anna Netrebko. I do find Cecilia's voice quite pleasing. I think the danger with these trained singers is indeed that they are being overtrained - and that perhaps musically they may be more perfect than younger singers like Hayley, Katherine, Holly and Yulia - but I find it very difficult to find any emotion in the voices of the more thoroughly trained classical femal voice. Funnily enough, I don't have that same experience with the thoroughly trained male classical voice - maybe the tenor voice has more warmth in it. From an early age, I have always found the soprano voice to be rather "cold". It's the young crossover singers of today that have changed that perception. Anyway, in case you don't know, I have download pages at www.classicalrelatedperformances.com/ for Anna Netrebko, Angela Gheorghiu and Cecilia Bartoli. The Cecilia Bartoli downloads are special, because a score of what she is singing scrolls through the videos - so the files are very large (100 MB or more), just to try and keep the scores legible. Cheers, Gerrit
