Hi all,
On the forums that I am involved in - we are often talking about events involving British royalty - I thought I would want to change the pattern for once, and talk about Dutch royalty.
This year marks the Silver Jubilee of Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands, and festivities started off on Friday April 29th, with a special open air concert in Amsterdam. Main artist in he concert was Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu - and I decided to tape the concert.
Angela performed 8 songs, including a special duet with Dutch tenor Jeroen Willems. It was a chanson by Jacques Brel, and the special character of this duet was that it was partly sung in French - and partly in Dutch. It is the first time ever I heard one of the big names in opera sing in my own language! Angela had learnt to sing the song phonetically.
But - the main interest for this group would (might?) be that Angela performed "Oh mio babbino caro" and "I could have danced all night".
Personally, I thought Angela's performance of "Oh mio babbina caro" was somewhat uninspiring, but I liked her interpretation of "I could have danced all night". Still, while I was listening to her, I was yearning for another singer to sing this, a singer named Holly Holyoake. I definitely prefer Holly's version above Angela's
For those of you who want to judge for yourself, you can download Angela's videos from

where there is a separate download page for her.
