In the 50's one of the most popular TV westerns was "Bonanza" which starred Lorene Green, Michael Landon, Pernell Roberts, and Dan Blocker.

Pernell Roberts played Adam, the eldest and usually smartest brother.

Besides acting however Pernell actually had an amazing singing voice and skills at accompanying himself on the piano.

He was offered a recording contract, probably on the basis of his singing of "Early one morning" on Bonanza, and as a result recorded an album entitled, "Come all ye fair and tender ladies."

Sadly the commercial sales did not match the overall excellence of the album and Pernell never became a big music star, his album though is in my opinion one of the most beautiful ever recorded.

If this album had been recorded a couple years ago one of my ambitions would have been to sing with him - but I don't think he sings anymore! lol.

Ah yes. Pernell Roberts(Adam), Lorne Greene(Ben), Michael Landon(Little Joe) and Dan Blocker(Hoss).

Devasting to think that three of them are no longer with us.

I used to have a record of Lorne Greene singing Danny Boy. Well, it was mostly narrative to tell a story and then finished off with a verse or two of the song. I thought it was excellent.

I'll get around to listening to those tracks as soon as I can.
