Good luck, Caite! It's always fun to move to somewhere new. Myself I'm quite interested in stowing away to South Africa for a few ... erm, years I'm curious, what's made your decision for a gap year in London?

Great for you, Caite! London sounds like your kinda place! Just be prepared for the fog, rain and inevitable Thames tidal flooding and you'll be fine.

Congratulations, Caite!! I'm sure you will have a wonderful time, and I hope you take plenty of pictures while you're there! Feel free to keep us State-bound fans posted as how you like it overseas. I may pick up and do that myself one of these days. (Oh, do watch out for that "backwards" driving and whole conversion thing! TIP: I hear that American appliances do not work in UK outlets --different voltage or something). Anyway, Congrats again! Best of luck, Eric :-p

Hi everyone! Thanks for your well-wishes (and for trying to convince me to go to Paris instead...didn't work. Sorry!). Gene- I have a place to stay initially, but I'd like to find somewhere that's closer to London. Mac- I've always loved London. Okay not always, but ever since I first visited when I was 8. Then two years ago I spent a couple days running about the city with a few friends of mine and had a wonderful time. Plus the fact that I vowed I would live in London one day when I was 8. Now my dream is coming true! Eric- I've already taken care of the outlet/voltage situation. I've got my convertors all set. Oh! For the first two weeks I'll have limited access to a computer and won't be online much. I'll do my best to keep you updated though! <3 Caite ps. Only a week to go!

Best of luck, Eric :-p A couple of things there Caite. - It cetainly applies to UK appliances (new) that they tend to recognise different voltages/current automatically and generally come as three standards: US UK EU so you SHOULD be okay bit it is wise to check.
- You need to bring with your at least 2 plug adaptors which should be obtainable from an air-side shop your side, or a nonair-side shop at Heathrow as the most convenient way of obtaining what you need. But London should supply you fairly easily but you don't want to be stuck on your first night without a means to use the electricity supply.
- Watch your laptop. It may be better to ensure you have the right battery lead USside.
- Remember, we here are interested in what attracts you so do post some of your selected pictures as we would like to know what fascinates or attracts your attention, or what you think are typical 'English'.

Hi again everyone! I've just a few more things to pack in my suitcases and then I'm off to NYC in the morning, and on early Thursday morning my flight leaves for London. I'm excited, but nervous too. Especially because these last few things just don't want to fit in my suitcases! I'll try to leave a message here or with someone to kindly post on my behalf that I've arrived at my destination safely. I have no idea what my internet time will be like so if you don't see me on please don't worry about me! When I do get on I will try to leave a message here so you know I'm still alive. Take Care. <33 Caite xx

Hi Caite, By the time you read this you will have begun to settle into your new *Home* ! I trust you had a pleasant flight...weren't those security checks a bit of a bother?! I had to take my boots off every single time. Then again I didn't really mind, better safe than sorry! I pray that you will enjoy your time abroad and have many exciting and wonderful new experiences and meet new friends to chat and laugh and sing(?) with! Love, Marianne

Welcome Caite! I'm glad you've arrived safely, and I hope you enjoy your time here in the London area. Be careful to look the right way when you cross the road. We drive on the wrong side here! Best Wishes, Richard
