Angelic Scot signs up to classical group

A YOUNG Scottish singer has signed a £1m deal as part of the latest classical music supergroup.
Daisy Chute, 17, originally from Musselburgh, East Lothian, is part of All Angels, a new band featuring four singing schoolgirls, which has signed the deal with Universal Music. The record label hopes she, along with Charlotte Ritchie, Laura Wright and Melanie Nakhla, "will do for classical music what the Arctic Monkeys have done for rock".
Its members won their places in the group by audition and are to release an album which is part of the "classical crossover" scene.
Ms Chute, who recently moved from Loretto School, near Edinburgh, said: "All my life I've loved singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan. But I also like listening to indie rock like Snow Patrol, Radiohead, The Killers and Razorlight." Her chance to join All Angels came after she sang at the Royal Albert Hall's School Proms with the Loretto Ensemble last November. She impressed Howard Goodall, the TV presenter and composer, who recommended her to Universal.
Dickon Stainer, general manager of Universal Music, said: "All Angels are going to bring new life to classical music."
