Hayley Westenra: Odyssey

It’s already gone straight to No 1 in New Zealand and Hayley Westenra’s second album, Odyssey, is about to be released on the UK market next week. And it’s fair to say Westenra’s sound will be well-received in the country she has made her second home.
I managed to listen to a sampler CD with four of the tracks from the album, and it didn’t disappoint. Westenra’s voice is something to be marvelled at – for someone who is only 18 her sound is simply beautiful and full of the passion for her career and country she talks so vividly about.
What You Never Know (Won’t Hurt You), the consummate opera number Ave Maria, Dell’ Amore Non Si Sa (a duet with Andrea Bocelli) and Never Saw Blue are fine introductions to Westenra’s sound
I managed to see Westenra sing at Kenwood House this year and have to say it is something all Kiwis should experience – certainly the family waving a silver fern flag in front of me were making the most of it. Her gracious and approachable manner will ensure she’s New Zealand favourite daughter for quite some time.
The album will be released in the UK on September 26 and in the US and Canada on October 18.

I corrected a couple of mistakes in the copy.
Bye for now,
Richard
